A very odd experience. Almost as if customers were a bother. We arrived at 11:30AM, and smelled some wonderful grilled meats. But the only menu they had was the breakfast menu. We asked 3 different employees about what was going to be served and when and referenced the great aroma. The first one replied: "it's whateverr is in the BBQ". Rather obvious. We asked what it was and when it would be available and were ignored. A similar situation with the cashier and then with the fellow who suddenly ran around the restaurant after we had gotten our tea and pastry (we had wanted something more substantial, but not breakfast at 11:30). He relied: "I don't know what the chef is cooking". We looked at the menu which had better choices for lunch, and then the menu guy put up the daily special board a few seconds later, which clearly referenced several meat items.

The also had a board with a schedule: 3PM cold sandwiches and soup only.3:15 desserts only, and 3:30 takeaway only. Weird and compressed service timeline.

We ended up leaving since no one seemed to want us to be able to order anything we were interested and and no employee had a clue despite there being 6 people in the one large open 15 foot square kitchen and counter.

The food may have been good, but we would never have known despite our...

While travelling across to Yorkshire for the Christmas holiday, we decided to stop at the Goat Gap Cafe for some lunch. On entering we chose a table away from the door ( can be chilly). We noticed on the specials menu that the soup of the day was Mushroom, ( one of our favourites, so we both plumped for that). I went to the counter and ordered our meal, 2 soups and 2 flat White coffees £21. The waitress brought over our utensils and condiments, quickly followed by our coffee. The soup arrived, piping hot, served with 2 slices of sourdough bread ( which had been lightly toasted) and butter. The soup was delicious, not to thick, well seasoned and with a deep mushroom flavour. We both cleaned our bowls and agreed it was one of the best mushroom soup’s we had had. The only negative, is the building is quite cold and a lot of the customers keep their coats on while eating, I imagine this is only an issue in the winter, but does detract from the atmosphere slightly. The quality of the food and the reasonable price certainly means we will visit again when taking the route...

Perched along the A65 between Ingleton and Settle, Goat Gap Café sits at the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, in a spot once frequented by drovers and travellers navigating the historic route through the dales. A modern stop with rustic character, it offers a welcome pause amid sweeping countryside views.

Although the staff did forget our food order—followed shortly by our drinks—we were still genuinely glad to have stopped in and supported the place. It was absolutely worth it. The menu, a concise single A4 sheet, may not rival an encyclopaedic curry house selection, but what’s offered is thoughtfully prepared and thoroughly satisfying. One small note: the tabletop was a little sticky to the touch, though still visibly clean. The large windows provide a splendid outlook while you dine, and the entire premises—including toilets and exterior—was well-kept and tidy. Parking is somewhat limited, but with a bit of patience, manageable. Highly...

I have watched this place evolve over the years and was delighted to find an opportunity to stop by this weekend. We'd been camping nearby and were coming back from Ingleton and stopped here for lunch. The menu is simple, the service is great. One way in, one way out. I opted for the salt beef sandwich and scone. Husband opted for the club sandwich and a brownie. My salt beef was outstanding. Quite literally the best I've had outside of NYC. I understand from talking to the lovely server that its the owners own recipe. It's amazing. Husband was very happy with his club sandwich which was so big he thought he was going to have to dismantle it. Both came with chips and a side salad. The brownie was a huge slab of chocolate that my husband just demolished. We will come back, and would happily make the 90 minute journey from Leeds to do so.
