As you walk into the bright courtyard you are surrounded by the authenticity and unique stamp of this place. Beautifully placed colourful potted plants, and garden mirrors surround you. There is an olive tree in the centre and tables (socially distanced) with wind sails covering most of the tables from the threat of rain. There are patio heaters and a chiminea for those requiring a bit more heat. We walked in, but if you book ahead you will have the pleasure of sitting in the Lavender barn, think a livery, with fine dining. It’s airy and yet brick secure. This place is completely covid secure. Each table has a wooden knocker on each table to use if you wish to use the toilet, just simply place it on the male/female sign to avoid any crossing of humans .. and you should go, if only for the motivation messages on the shelves. However the really impressive quality is the food, which my teen and child deemed as “ best meal of the holiday” and for the more eloquent son, “Exquisite” Both had the cheese and Bacon burger. May I also add that they have have a cheese and bacon burger for lunch every day of their holiday and beyond are considered connoisseurs on the subject. We shared the prawn cocktail, spring rolls, Chicken wings, onion rings and goats cheese tart as a family sharing/ tapas option. All were divine, certainly homemade... with particular mention to the goats cheese. We lovely the baby spinach salad and the pistachios addition! But wait.. there are also daily specials! We saw the Chicken Kiev come out and we were a little envious. Finally, the garlic mayonnaise is something definitely worth a mention!! Run by a mother and daughter team, the service is knowledgeable, attentive, with lovely warmth and witty banter. We aren’t local but this place is...
Read moreWe booked this hotel as a step off point to break up a long distance journey. According to the Website “you are guaranteed a great nights sleep and a hearty breakfast” so we booked a Saturday and Sunday night. On arrival were immediately told that the breakfast was extra and was not served until 10am ie nearly lunch time. Alternatively you could have a ‘continental breakfast’ which would be left outside your door the previous night. Prior to booking I checked that there would be no issues with bringing our dog into the pub as well as the rooms as we would be eating in the pub. We were told that there would be no problem. Again on arrival we were told that the pub closed at 4pm on Sunday so we could not get an evening meal and “all the pubs round here do the same” (I confess that I failed to check the opening hours of the pub on the website thinking that if they were open for guests then the pub would be open – compounded by the fact that both pub and accommodation is closed on Wednesday).|We were then shown to our room which was freezing cold; the window was wide open and the radiator turned off. So we had to shower in a cold room. Now this room is poetically described as having a “courtyard view”, to be clear the room has a beer garden view.|Due to these problems and a personal matter we decided to stay for one night although we had paid for two.|On the positive side the bed was comfortable but the great night’s sleep was punctuated by the frame creaking and cracking each time you turned over. In addition the noise from the kitchen was quite significant.|The staff were all very pleasant to deal with but that did not make up for all the other deficiencies. Wish I had read the previous negative feedback written on...
Read moreMy partner and I were in Banbury for a wedding and travelled from Kent.
My partner booked the hotel as there were no Premier Inns available and this hotel was by far much cheaper, to our surprise.
When we arrived, it looked like a pub that had couple of rooms and a bumpy car park.
After going inside the pub to book in, we were greeted with a very friendly female member of bar staff. We explained we were on our way to a wedding and, already, very late. She took us outside to another part of the building that is hidden with lovely flowers and offered to call us a taxi for when we needed.
Our room was, quite frankly, massive! It was so clean, fresh and all round lovely. We had a proper feather duvet with feather pillows. In the bathroom we had a double shower which both me and the Mrs could, if we tried, fitted in with both our bags. There was also numerous complementary items - such as 6 boxes of breakfast cereal, numerous tea and coffee supplied and proper, fresh milk unlike what is supplied in some hotels. As well as bottles of fresh orange juice.
Whilst waiting for our taxi outside my partner asked the bar staff for a glass of water. The bar staff provided an ice cold glass of water speedily and with no fuss.
Throughout the night at the hotel we could not hear the other guests or any noise from the pub. There was also no pressure to check out on time either!
If we ever are that was again, we will be...
