My stay at this hotel room was nothing short of a chilly nightmare. With temperatures dropping to -2°C outside and snow on the ground, the lack of heating in the room left me feeling like I was camping in an igloo. The only warmth came from the electric towel rail in the bathroom, which made for an unconventional heating solution. Attempting to take a warm bath proved futile, as there was only enough hot water to fill the tub to a mere third of its capacity. The condensation on all windows added to the discomfort, creating a damp and unwelcoming atmosphere. The bathroom, unfortunately, was a breeding ground for mold, with cracked tiles and rust on fixtures serving as a testament to the neglect of maintenance. The overall state of the room was disappointingly dated, with a worn-out building fabric and uncomfortable bed (2 singles pushed together to make a double) that made for a restless night. The furniture was nice and in keeping with the age and style of the place. Staff were nice too, and attentive. This experience though, has left me questioning the standards and commitment to guest comfort at this establishment. Come on it was freezing and no heating?? No excuses.

The Green Dragon is an exceptional village pub. Firstly the beer, there is a good range of beers, lagers and ciders and three hand pulled cask conditioned real ales. The real ale was on fantastic form when I called in. The young staff were very enthusiastic and knowledgeable, even offering me a taster when I was undecided on the beers. I only called in for a drink, but I checked out the food menu for future reference while I was there. There's a really good choice on the menu and some very tempting dishes at reasonable prices. It was quite busy and I saw a lot of the dishes coming out from the kitchen it looks really good, I will definitely be coming back for a meal with my family. The pub is also dog friendly on the non carpeted areas. It is not often I give a pub five stars, I usually find something to criticize but this deserves five stars ✨. Highly recommended unless you are a sketchy highway man.

Not as good as it used to be. Absolutely filthy, everything was sticky. Had to sit looking at soiled curtains next to my face whilst I ate, while my partner had to look down the top of a radiator which was level with the table top next to the plates, thick in hair and dust (see all of my photos). Had reserved a table but the hostess just pointed me in the general direction and I had to guess which table was ours. Had to ask for cutlery after food had came which still had food on from previous customer. Table wasn’t wiped down prior to us being seated. We’ve been visiting this pub for years and it’s gone downhill. Such a prominent location, it’s crying out for some TLC. Could be a great place again, just needs a deep clean and more staff.

We booked 2 rooms and had requested a twin and a double. Initial conversation with member of staff at the inn was far from assuring that the booking had been made successfully so then called the central booking to confirm. Booking was confirmed yet on check in we were given 2 double rooms rather than a twin and double. Rooms were very comfortable although there were elements which were showing wear & tear and could do with some TLC, eg toilet roll holder was very loose, grouting/sealant around bath was loose. Also the shower screen did not stop the spray from the shower leaving the bath and the surrounding area got very wet.

We also made use of the restaurant with our stay. We had a table booked for 19:00 and arrived at about 18:30; we were expecting guests that weren't staying in the hotel so waited in the bar and had a drink; we eventually went to our table at the allotted time. We weren't approached for our meal order until 19:45 eventhough the guests at the neighbouring table were able to give drink orders, the waitress serving them totally ignored us even after trying to get her attention. We had to approach the manager to request service. Our meal orders were taken shortly after that. Two of our party had dietary requirements (gluten and dairy allergy) but we were very disappointed at the availability of menu options that were gluten free and that the staff were unable to tell us what was dairy/gluten free; we were referred to a document on the website which was very difficult to read. Our meal orders eventually arrived at about 20:30 and were not really to a standard that we would expect of Marstons; dry scampi, leathery and dry steak. When we discussed the delay with the manager as we were leaving he tried to tell us that the delay in the food was because of the meals with allergens needing to be prepared in a separate part of the kitchen, totally understandable and expected but it did not account for the severe delay in receiving our food and almost passed the blame back to us for having dietary requirements. At this point we also asked about availability of gluten free options for the breakfast the next day. Again he referred to us to the website but the menus that we were able to access were not at all clear. When ordering the breakfast the next morning, we were able to request gluten free bread but were unable to have sausages as they were not gluten free and there were no gluten free cereals available on the self-service table. The breakfasts arrived fairly promptly but some of the breakfast items were already cold, the mushrooms and tomato, and the portion of baked beans were very small; one of our party ordered beans on toast and there was barely enough beans to put a tablespoonful on each slice of bread.

In summary, we will not be visiting the Green...

We arrived at 7.15pm and noticed that the restaurant and bar area were not as busy as usual. After ordering our food and drink we expected to receive the meal within a reasonable time. Our meals (we both had chicken and chorizo flatbreads (the menu called these "Signature Flatbreads") finally arrived after one hour of waiting. I am not sure why it took so long as there was not a lot of activity in and out of the kitchen area. When we started to eat the meal we noticed that the chicken was not cooked correctly, and on some pieces of the chicken it was raw. We called the waitress over and told her that the chicken was not cooked. She just looked at us and the meal with a blank expression. We explained again that we couldnt eat it as the chicken was uncooked. The meals were taken away. We expected the waitress to come back and explain what was happening and an apology. After 10 or 15 minutes wait we called over another waiter and asked him to find out what was happening with our meal. He went to the kitchen to check and returned to tell us that a replacement was being prepared. We asked how long it will be as we didn't want to wait another hour. He informed us that it was on the grill cooking. After a further 20-25 minutes the meal arrived. After over 90 minutes since arriving we finally got our meal. At least the chicken was cooked this time (although the order was not quite right... we both asked for fries but only one meal had them... this was corrected). The waiter asked us if we wanted another drink on the house and apologised for the meal. We have visited the restaurant many times before for a meal and the food has always been good. However this time the food was appalling as was the service. We wont be coming back and would prefer to travel a bit further for a decent meal...

This was our first visit. Upon arrival there was plenty of car parking space and a lovely outside seating area. The pub itself is nice, very spacious has a generally warm feeling from the decor. The small table was absolutely overloaded with menus, leaflets and discount vouchers etc leaving little space for food and drinks.

We found the staff to be quite unwelcoming. There was no conversation from the girls at all except “that’s your table” and when taking our order at the bar which was very straight to the point. The restaurant was nowhere near full. We eat out a lot and this was by far the least we’ve ever connected with staff members, it was quite an uncomfortable experience, like we were an inconvenience. They looked totally disinterested and like they had better places to be on a Saturday afternoon rather than in their chosen role in hospitality.

My husband ordered a burger which was supposed to come with coleslaw, he also ordered onion rings as an extra which also didn’t arrive. When he let the bar know he received the onion rings but no coleslaw, by that time it was pretty much pointless asking for coleslaw again as he was halfway through the food. My hubby said the food was acceptable.

I ordered the lamb with the mini pie. The pie was good as was the gravy, the three pieces of lamb were pure fat, the cubed potatoes were acceptable and the overcooked veg was tasteless. Overall the dish wasn’t nicely presented at all and looked like it had literally been thrown on the plate.

Would we return, most likely not unless we were passing by and were absolutely starving. Shame really as the posts on facebook give the impression of a warm welcome and a huge effort is put into showing the pub in a lovely light especially with all the events that are happening...
