We went here as out 4th visit over the last 5 years and we were really disappointed if I'm being totally honest. Previously, to go to Halsetown Inn was a treat night. The food was unique, delicious and came with a price you didnt mind paying because it was so good, you came away thinking 'wow, that was amaizing'. We arrived and had to wait a while to be told to sit wherever we wanted after we'd booked (not a problem really). Then we had one menu waiting for 4 of us that was sticky, full of salt and grubby stains, I had to get another one of another table and I'm actually not a fussy person like that. We waited for someone to ask us what drinks we would like. We watched people be served at the bar and thought maybe we should try going to the bar ourselves, ok so we got our drinks. We then sat and waited and no one seemed interested in coming to take our order of food, so as I took my daughter to the toilet I asked a member of staff if they could take our order. The food came and it was nice but just a nice as any other pub. We were gutted it's lost its charm. Last time we shared mussels with our children and had the most amazing, fresh fish meal, one of a few to order from. We were restricted to burgers, lasagne, chilli, curry, fish and chips or scampi. There was a specials board with one fish dish and a lamb shank but I was wary what it would come like as I just lost my confidence in seeing the pub go to such a basic menu. I'm sorry Halsetown but we won't be rushing to come back to be brutally honest, it's sad for us that you were the first place we booked to come back to this year and we may aswell have gone to any old pub. I don't know whether to feel disappointed or sad that it's just...

Went to order drinks and found only one bitter available and no pinot wine. Bar staff talking between themselves, expressing disbelief at how busy it was. Meals were ordered... only one veggie option was available, a burger and an additional wafer thin slice of cheese.could be added for £1.00. Various other starters and main meals were ordered at the same time. Without any prior warning, all starters and main meals were then delivered to the table , all at the same time, stating that the kitchen was really busy. We were offered the option to box the mains up to take away but as we had booked a sit down meal, we rejected this . One starter was listed as pate and toast, only to be presented with a tasteless pate and three cracker wheats...this were sent back to the kitchen. Bill paid in full ( as we were not looking for a freebie or bill reduction) but we really feel it necessary to leave this review as a...
Read moreHad an excellent Sunday lunch at the Halsetown Inn yesterday. Sat outside on the patio area at the back, sheltered but not too enclosed and is definitely an idyllic sun trap. Great friendly service from the staff, a well cooked and very good value roast pork belly at £11. As a fan of a decent roast I can recommend this place without question and they keep their ale well too, always key to shutting me up. The beef looked and was reported to be very good too, cooked rare as it should be. A nice touch is the individual cheesy leeks in a ramekin that accompanied - think it was 4 different vegetables - including broccoli which still had bite and a whole baby carrot. Pleasing when a busy pub gets Sunday lunch vegetables right. Well, well worth venturing out of St Ives to visit the pub, nice walk up past the monument and down a quiet lane. Earns a Doom Bar and lunch for sure....
