The Hayride is a Greene King pub, a reliable choice for affordable, classic pub fare.
One notable aspect of The Hayride is its well-curated selection of alcohol-free beers and ciders, catering to various preferences. The inclusion of vegan options on the food menu further solidifies its appeal as a dependable destination for both food and drink.
Personally, I find the app particularly useful when visiting a Greene King establishment. It allows me to conveniently check the available stock and leisurely explore options from the comfort of my seat. While the app does come with certain customization limitations, during my visit to The Hayride, I opted to place my order at the bar.
Comparing prices through the app revealed that The Hayride is more affordable than several other Greene King pubs I've frequented. This price comparison included meals and drinks, and I found that not only were the meals more reasonably priced at The Hayride, but the beverages were as well.
As for the food itself, when my order arrived, it was rather basic. The fries lacked seasoning, and the burger came with minimal garnish. However, this was entirely in line with my expectations given the price point. It's worth mentioning that while the same meal is available at other Greene King pubs, I've encountered instances where it felt like a slight step up in quality, albeit accompanied by a higher price tag.
When it comes to the atmosphere, the venue offers plenty of space, and I was pleased to note the absence of flies – a somewhat unusual sight for Greene King pubs. I explored the entire pub to gauge the available seating options in a quiet and comfortable setting. The televisions were broadcasting sports on every screen throughout the venue. The only quiet spot I found was near the entrance. However, this peacefulness was short-lived as even the TV in that area was eventually unmuted, blasting the sounds of stadiums directly...
Read moreFirst visit in a year or so...First off there was hardly anything available on the menu. No flat breads, no steaks, no ciabatta starter, no garlic bread, various other items missing from each part of the menu. I ordered one of the only available burgers which was the tandoori one, which of course they had no onion rings to serve with. All the food was barely luke warm, a small handful of undercooked cold fries, the chicken wasnt even warm to touch, the bahji was burnt on one side and sloppy in the middle. The baby gem lettuce in my burger wasn't leaves but the core still attached to the stem! And no red onion actually in the burger, just 1 piece on the side. My daughters glass of orange juice was served in a glass covered in lipstick stains and none of my children got ice in their drinks as requested when ordering on the app. My son opted for the bigger appetites burger which came with 6 chips which were dry and undercooked. All three children got baked beans on their plates which were clearly over cooked in the microwave as the beans had all come away from their skins and were dry. Both my sons complained of their burgers being dry and crunchy so loaded them with ketchup to help get them down. My daughters chicken nuggets looked okay. The children enjoyed their ice cream sundae which was the same size as my adults one, with just some extra chocolate on top. I did see a delivery truck arrive when we were served our food so do understand they may have been waiting for a delivery but that doesn't excuse the poor quality of the food that they did have available. The place was empty. We didn't once get asked if the food was okay. Bad service. Bad food. A waste of over £50 and won't be returning...
Read moreComments where to start, I am utterly appalled at the meal we have had this evening- family have travelled up from Kent and had to endure a cool meal! When ordering I did stipulate we had had a bad meal at the Ponto Lounge the previous night and had asked that the food came out hot, young girl behind the bar stated “well try”, that alone should of been a warning bell, not overly busy and 3 staff stood around while 1 young lass was serving at the bar.
Food came out some time after ordering, due to been with family and promising my wife I wouldn’t fuss I accepted the meal, was prompted by my wife to check it while the girl stood there. The girl soon walked off!
I had the mixed grill on a sizzling plate- disgusting the onions were stone cold ON A SIZZLING PLATE!
Everything was cool, not warm but cool all but the 1 sausage which was warm.
I am not surprised anyone didn’t come over to check how it was during the meal, I did go to the bar to make a comment and told them I wasn’t having the fuss of dragging the party to the bar to be refunded- at 20:30pm to receive food at a quiet period for it to be cold is just not acceptable.
People in todays climate do not choose to eat out as a treat for them to then be met with cold food, to not thermometer check food before it comes out is the bare minimum in the food standards to which this totally failed.
How can establishments such as yourself expect to stay open during s crisis like this when the only job serving food is to bring it out hot, this should not be a request or complaint the customers...
