Hobson — Restaurant in England

I went to the Hobson with a friend of mine for the Monday Madness special. Although the food itself was okay the service provided (apart from the lady who served us our food) was appalling. The girl behind the bar was very rude, she grunted at me when I ordered a drink, she barely even looked in my direction. When I asked for a coke I wasn’t asked whether I wanted a half pint or a full pint she just presumed that I wanted a full pint, I wasn’t asked whether I wanted ice she again just presumed. My friend ordered an ice water which had a dead spider in it. When I took it back to have it replaced the drink was snatched from me and practically flung at the sink. The drink was replaced but had dirt floating in the bottom of the glass. I had to ask another 2 times for the drink to be replaced. Not once was an apology made the girl didn’t even speak she just slammed the drink down each time on the bar. Really not great customer service at all. I for one will not be returning to this...

Drove by this place for years. Wondering where the big statue has gone from the outside? There used to be stories that it would go missing every now and then but would always return.

Decided to come in for Sunday lunch, I did fancy a good steak and ale pie.

Absolutely blown away by the place, it isn't fancy it isn't posh, it isn't expensive either. It is a good old pub with good pub food. Exactly what we wanted.

The pie I got was super tasty, and the veg that came with it was cooked well.

The food portions were brilliant and loads of food there for us, surprisingly for every paying adult a child eats for free! Tell me another place that offers that? Now tell me another place that will also offer sturdy portion sizes even for the free kids meal?

100% will come back here.

Called in for lunch today. Was not sure what to expect for their £8.95 special 2 course lunch. Absolutely amazing value. Don't know how they do it for the price. My husband had the black pudding stack with peppercorn sauce for starter. He has had it before from an Italian restaurant but he said today's knocked spots off the Italian one which he paid more for as just a starter. I had the soup which too was very nice Mains my husband had steak and ale pie. Loads of good quality steak in pie. I had mince and leek pudding. Both mains were served with veg and lovely homemade chips. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. Lovely cosy pub and I know we will definitely be visiting again. Great choice on menu both specials and normal menu....
