Service poor and no atmosphere. Shame as it used to be so lovely
I have edited the review following on from the response from the owner as I can see my thoughts were not helpful. So to clarify, the bar staff on Sunday were not engaged with the customers and I felt that I was an inconvenience - perhaps as I only popped in for a drink rather than a meal. I was served a ginger beer in a glass that was marked from the dishwasher and was far too large for the drink. I chose not to say anything as the gentleman at the bar seemed uninterested in the service he was giving. I hope that maybe it was his first shift and was uncertain of himself...but then more training in customer service would be better before you let new staff lose on the bar. The pub itself lacked atmosphere, although there were plenty of people in - hard to put my finger on, but still I think that a country pub does need to be aware of this so that you can think about the environment you set up for customers. I know that you have expanded the space, so again maybe this is a work in progress. I hope that you take this as constructive - i do not wish to put people off coming to the pub and I know how hard it is for any one in a customer facing role with the rise of social...
Read moreWe were staying in Morcott after a wedding and wanted somewhere to have a good meal that wasn't going to cost us a fortune. Well we certainly found a little gem in this place!! Was extremely busy, both inside and outside. The guys behind the bar were run off their feet as was the chef and the guy running out with everyone's food orders!! The food was wonderful!! We had the Horse & Jockey burger with chips and salad. Wow it was brilliant!! Nicely presented, tasted delightful and we cannot fault anything. Despite how busy they were, we didn't have to wait long for our food and it was extremely filling and the cost was very, very reasonable. The pub is in a beautiful setting with plenty of outside seating. The decor is very modern with a touch of old country traditions. They also have Norfolk Wherry and Greene King Abbott Ales. Tables inside and outside well spaced, outside veranda. Onthe Rutland Water cycle route with bike racks as well!! Very clean, very friendly, service was brilliant as was the food. Staff very attentive with no pressure. Please come and see this place and enjoy the great...
Read moreThe one star is for the service, which was friendly. However, we waited ages for our food at a time when the restaurant wasn’t at all busy. We ordered the vegetable pasta dish which was just about acceptable, although overcooked and somewhat tasteless. The quiche dish was unremittingly awful though - quite a tasty filling, but I think it must have been reheated in the microwave as it was tough and rubbery, and was in a pastry case that was like cardboard. Served with it were a large number of plain-boiled new potatoes and a salad which was reasonably fresh but both salad and potatoes had no dressing and were dull. I asked for salad dressing and was directed to a box of sachets of condiments on the bar. I chose mayonnaise, this being the only option other than plain vinegar. I don’t recall the price we were charged for these things but they were certainly not cheap. If anyone had asked for our opinion we would have expressed it last night when we were there, but noone did and so for the first time ever I am resorting to an...
