Il Paradiso on the Forest — Restaurant in England

We enjoyed a lovely evening on Friday December 27th. This was a catch up evening with our Granddaughter, visiting her home City of York from London. We chose a bottle of House red whilst perusing the menu, reasonably priced and excellent quality. The choice of our starters, pasta and specials was excellent. We enjoyed a first course of, Calamari in Salsa, Crostino do Burrata and Caprese do Bufala, our mains of Allo Scoglio(Seafood Risotto),Sea Bass in Tomato Sauce and Porchetta Al Mirto-all tasty, wonderfully cooked, beautifully presented and served with aplomb and politeness. Our 3 desserts of Tiramisu, Lemon Tart and Profiteroles, again beautifully presented, lovely desserts to round off our memorable dinner. Prices are very reasonable for food of this quality. Our second visit to the restaurant, was very disappointing compared to our first. When the complementary bread and balsamic oil were better than the starters, somethings wrong. This time we ordered starters that were not very appealing to look at and rather poor, first of all they brought the wrong platter out. Then when they brought out the meat, salad and cheese platter the salad was old and limp. With a small slice of cheese. The bruschetta was three tiny slices about 3 inches topped with tomato, more what you’d expect to be a complementary offering. Sister to the I'll Paradiso on Walmgate in York. Located some way out of town on the north side on the Wigginton Road, probably 4 miles off the ring road. Just suddenly appears out of nowhere, so a little remote. Looks like a converted farm building so it's much larger than the York venue, High ceilings and open plan so for me it loses some of that lovely cramped and noisy atmosphere you sometimes get with Italian restaurants. Having said all that, the hosts were very welcoming and helpful, service was efficient and the food was very good. No complaints at all on that front. Cost wise I would say slightly more expensive than town, we spent £220 for 5 adults but we did all have specials and a bottle of wine, so not too bad overall. Worth a visit if you don't...
