Before I proceed, I must take into account, that we have more than 10 years of experience in hospitality (IT side, and my Misses worked as a Restaurant Manager for quite a while). We received a leaflet from the place, so My Misses and I decided to give it a try. They are also the closest pub to us. We visited the place on a Wednesday evening. The place was quiet (had around 20 guests in). On first impression, when we walked in and headed to the bar to order some drinks there were no staff there. Quite disappointing. We had to wait around 10 minutes just to be able to order our drinks where there weren't any queue... The staff We had our drinks and placed our food order. One mixed grill plate and one Cheeseburger menu and a dessert. The food was served on time (around 20-25 minutes), and the plates looked nice. The Cheeseburger was average, no complaints, value for money. Unfortunately, I have doubts about the mixed grill plate. The vegetables, chips and chicken breast was perfect and delicious. The gammon steak was average, value for money. The rump steak was terrible. I was only able to even cut the "medium" steak with the knife provided about the 15th time. Just tried a small bite, it was even hard to chew. My worst steak experience ever. I decided to take it home for our dog. Took her a while to even get a bit off (I wanted to upload a video of this, but google doesn't let me...). After finishing our meal, we spent about 15 minutes at the table but our dessert wasn't ready that time. We went to the bar to ask where is it, but there weren't any staff at the bar again... We go out for a smoke, on the way back we tried again, we waited about 5-10 minutes again, just for a staff member. We had been advised that our dessert is ready, and will be served straight away, this serving took 10 minutes... The staff was very polite and helpful when they appear... The place will learn the hard way, it is so unprofessional to spend money on advertisement, when they don't go the extra mile for their new customers. We will definitely choose more experienced and professional places in Scunthorpe, also I have to mention they are not...
Read more"I recently had the misfortune of dining at the Iron Forge in Burringham Rd Scunthorpe, and I'm still trying to process the disaster that unfolded. Our carvery experience was a letdown from start to finish. The meat portions were ridiculously small, especially considering the price tag of over £10 for a regular portion - I'd estimate it was no more than 150g of meat. The meat itself was uninspiring, and the accompanying vegetables were a catastrophe. The cauliflower cheese was cold, hard, and lacked any real cheese flavor, instead featuring a strange red powder. The potatoes were a health hazard, tasting like they'd been sat out for days before being chucked in the fryer. The carrots were dry and tasteless, while the parsnips were oily and disgusting. The mash potatoes were somewhat better but lacked flavor. The stuffing was dry, crumbly, and utterly unappetizing.
What really took the biscuit, however, was the service. One of the staff was downright rude to my wife, which set the tone for the rest of our meal. Given the subpar food and poor service, it's no wonder no one came to check on us during the meal.
The only redeeming qualities were the drinks and the pub's newly refurbished interior. However, this wasn't enough to save the experience from being a total disaster. My family and I left feeling hungry and disappointed, and I can confidently say we'll never be returning. To improve, I think the pub needs to seriously consider revamping their kitchen staff and increasing portion sizes to give customers better value for their money. As it stands, the competition in the area is...
Read moreBooked table due to normally busy Thursday teatime. Arrived no one to great us and show us to table, just one lady at bar serving who we asked, and she said not busy sit anywhere! We found our table (we think, because it had reserved sign) and perused menu, no daily specials as per website on menu ( if not seen online how do customers know). Went to bar to order and joined the queue, noticed a man who looked like staff just wandering around, he did look across and see the queue and eventually came across and asked who's next. He served them and then just walked off with people still queuing! Eventually he came back ignored the queue picked up two glasses and poured drinks for a gentleman that arrived last. We were next to be served so the lady asked what we required, we said the man's name serving at the bar, she said it is Chris but didn't know his surname! We asked to speak to him was told I'll be with you in a minute. He eventually came over and we asked him why he ignored the queue and he promptly butted in with his excuses, he never asked who was next just assumed he new! He didn't seem at all bothered, just rude excuses, never felt so ignored and unwanted before. Apparently this man is the Manager Chris Main. We told him we would not be dining, and left to take our money and custom to your competitors. We will not be returning or recommending The Iron Forge. Yours ex...
