Sadly the Jolly Sailors are at risk of damaging their reputation for excellent Sunday lunch. People frequent this establishment for the QUALITY of the meals provided. Unfortunately that was not the case today. Meat was tough, dry and chewy. It was pre-cut (the sort of thing youād get in weatherspoons) and the Chicken meat whilst breast, was clearly not whole chickens - it was from bulk packs. Obviously the cost of materials, energy and general expenditure mean the price of the meals had to increase, but I fear āpenny pinchingā on the main part of the meal (meat) will ultimately result in a drop in trade. Weād much prefer to pay an extra couple of quid for the quality this place is renowned for⦠It takes years to build a reputation and days to wreck it. It was the worst and most expensive lunch weāve had at the Jollyās, and was not enjoyable. The staff didnāt need to ask if all was ok with the meal, it was obvious it wasn't by the meat left. This looked similar on other tables. Iāll certainly be asking whether itās pre-cut meat before booking a table in the future. This is not mud-slinging, just an honest review in the hope the management re-assess their priorities to ensure the standards the Jolly Sailors is popular for remain. Such a shame, we absolutely love this place⦠ā¹ļø
As a positive, the serving staff and the vegetables served were to the same excellent standard customers...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreUnfortunately I came on a day that some staff members had just started, they took our order wrong as he wasn't really listening, even after I asked him to repeat the order back to us and crossed off the mistakes the wrong food still arrived. The chicken was very dry even though they where swimming in very watery bbq marinade, the pork chops needed a steak knife to cut through and the beef burger poured out grease on the first bite (obviously I expect a burger to contain fat, but not to pour out resulting in my chips to float in it), the starters where very nice but took a while (30 minutes) to arrive and then the main was another 40 minutes after the starter with the missing items arriving 5 - 10 minutes later, lucky we arrived during a quieter period of the day as we could of been waiting much longer. The dining room was extremely smokey making everyone's eyes water but a manager finally opened some windows after asking someone twice. A nice country pub and restaurant but unfortunately I wouldn't go back even though I'd heard really good reviews from...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe Diane sauce was expensive but to die for. I'd go back just for that. Of the five tables with customers, three had dogs - there are even dog selections included on the menu! So yes to dog friendly. Busy when we arrived and short staffed (we were advised), asked if we were happy to wait 20mins - we were. It was only 10 minutes in the end. Worth waiting. Beautiful Cole slaw. Tons of parking spaces. Easy to miss the pub if not looking for it. The pub is nothing much to look at, bit tatty 8f anything but all we wanted was decent food - and we got it. Offered me container to put non-eaten food to take home. I had rump steak cooked to perfection , unusual as I like a blue steak and more often than not it comes overcooked, this was perfect if maybe a little tough but then rump can be, partner had large burger and it was very large. He ate it all and said it was good. It looked very good to me. Will...
