Came down after booking a table, waited 15 mins to be served for drinks and then was made to feel a nuisance for requesting to order food and being told it would be a 30 mins wait (completely understandable if it was busy but tables were not even full) I would also like to add we did book three hours in advance just to check availability, however if you don’t have the staff or the time to serve people don’t accept a booking? The woman who served us didn’t even crack a smile but could be having a bad day I work in customer service myself completely understand people have bad days but come on crack a smile. Place was swarming with flies and then continued to wait another 20 mins for drinks to come out. One was wrong the rest were flat apart from the hawkstone beer. Waited for food to come out cold apart from the gravy and curry which I later found a hair in. You know when sometimes you might give a place a second chance they might have had a bad night, this place I would never return to we all felt sick after leaving the place. This is the first review I’ve ever left on a restaurant but I feel as though everything was so bad that I needed to let someone know. Management need to sort it out it’s vile.

First time visit, home cooked food and it was absolutely delicious. I had steak and ale pie, chips, mushy peas and gravy and my Husband had steak and ale pie, mushy peas and mash with American cheese and bacon sauce on the mash and Stilton sauce on his pie. It was THE nicest pie I’ve ever eaten at a pub/restaurant and the jug of gravy was so tasty. It was all I could do not to lick my plate! The build your own meal idea is brilliant, ie, choose your main (pie) then choose your sides (chips, mash, etc, and mushy peas, garden peas, etc). I read reviews before we went and saw a couple that said the build your own meal was very complicated! I really really can’t see what was complicated about it. We are on holiday in Haverigg and will definitely be back to try the build your own cheesecake. UPDATE: We returned for breakfast today, Friday. THE best breakfast I have ever had! See for yourself on the photo. Exceptionally high quality product from their local butcher and cooked to perfection! Very reasonable prices too.

Whilst I was staying in Kirksanton, I popped into the King William IV (King Billy) and was really impressed. The food was excellent – I opted for the steak, and was cooked perfectly and full of flavour. I also had a waffle for dessert, which was absolutely epic! If you want locally sourced / farm supporting food - this is the place! The pub itself is warm, cosy, and really well maintained – a lovely place to relax. There’s a good selection of beers on tap, and a nice outdoor seating area if you want to sit and watch the world go by. Staff were polite, friendly and very accomodating. They allow for dogs, which was great and nice to have with us whilst enjoying a family meal out. They also open from 10am and serve breakfast, which is really handy if you're staying in the area like I was. All in all, a brilliant local pub and well worth a visit.

I booked a table over the phone and spoke to a lovely, friendly person who assured me that they could cater for us. While this was true, and we enjoyed our meals to an extent, the service was pretty slow and the meal was a little bit dry. As seems to be the norm, we were treated to awful modern music throughout, which was a shame as it ruined the atmosphere of a beautiful old building that's been very nicely decorated inside. My main issue, however, is the lack of parking. Overall, our visit was okay but could have been a lot better.

edit in response to the reply from Sam Hi Sam, apologies if the review seemed overly negative! Overall, we were fairly happy with our visit but just felt that it could have been a little better. We visited on Sunday September 3rd, it wasn't too busy but the service did seem a bit slow. I can't fault the young girl who took our orders as she did check with the chef several times to try to accommodate our requirements, but as far as I recall, we did not receive a "meal check" at any time. Myself and my two boys had the vegan burgers, which were nice enough although the fries were quite dry, like oven chips, and we found it difficult to finish them, even with plenty of sauce added. Regarding the music, this was a question of personal taste, although we found that most places we visited in the Lake District opted for modern music regardless of the average age of the clientele. I would have thought that a mix of genres would appeal to a wider audience and create a better and happier atmosphere? As for the parking, I was simply advising future visitors to be aware that they may encounter problems.

To finish, we would be more than happy to eat here again if we are in the area - it's a lovely place and I'm sure that you have many very happy customers. It's just that on this particular occasion we felt that a couple of issues could have been better. Best wishes for the...
