Where do i start with the Kinghead..
It came as a recommendation sadly.
Firstly the serving staff were lovely altho clearly used to being embarrassed regularly..
I will come back to the drinks.....
I ordered a roast beef Sunday dinner and was informed the beef was very rare, with the option of having it cooked more..I was fine with rare.
My dinner guest ordered roast chicken dinner..
We were given two hot plates and asked to keep part of the table clear for the arrival of our food..
What arrived had us confused because it arrived on a plank,we were sure the order was wrong because we couldn't see any beef and there was poached Chicken(sorry, boiled dry chicken) sat next to a bloody heap of whatever it was, chewy nasty fat..
the blood had seeped under the chicken sat next to it and already spoiled the chicken if that was even possible..
My dinner guest was mortified because she had ordered the chicken because of the suggestion of bloody meat...Great plank idea there..
Lets move on to the rest of the disaster, over cooked hasselback potatoes, undercooked cauliflower cheese with no cheese,The stuffing balls were lovely though..
After figuring out where my meat was it was rare but couldn't be cut with the blunt knife provided and was chewy as hell..Sent it back and got a worse replacement of fatty meat like i have never experienced before anywhere in the country..
Both our mash potatoes were so over powered with horseradish and mustard it wasn't really edible..
Gladly Tilly our dog had a fantastic time eating the beef i tried to chew..
Having been appologised to by the waiting staff again i left leaving my dinner guest to pay as it were her turn; to find we paid £6 for two pints of ice with a splash of coke max out of a super market plastic bottle..Talk about ripping people off..
When asked on paying the bill if all was ok and getting the true and honest feedback the manageress didn't give two hoots....
Don't just imagine i am a moaner,my other reviews show how fair i am and i can cook anything on this menu to perfection and willing to prove that..
This was by far the worst meal i have had in 30 years..sad effort and rude management who...
Hospitality and food as it should be!
It's quite rare to dine out and not be able to pick a single fault and it's extremely rare that you are blown away with every element of the experience.
Everyone that we encountered at The Kings Head were very friendly and welcoming and everyone seems to work well as a real team, to pull it all together. There is a lovely undertone of humour running between the owner and the chef and it is a joy to take part in the banter.
We were drawn to eat here after seeing some really good-looking platters of food on Facebook and noticing that these weren't one off pictures but many more photos from customers, taken over a good period of time and this demonstrated a real consistency in the quality of the food.
We were lucky to get a table as it was Mother's Day and they were almost fully booked well in advance.
We joked that Gordon Ramsay wouldn't be unhappy eating here and the gravy is so good that they ought to jar it and sell it at the bar 😁
We were even provided with a complimentary glass of bubbly as it was our 35th wedding anniversary, which was a very kind gesture and very much appreciated.
Unfortunately, I didn't take any photos of the Sunday roast platter but I can guarantee that it looked just as good as it did in all of the social media pictures that I had seen. The beef was tender and tasty and the pork comes with a wedge of crispy yet light crackling and a huge yorky pud, probably the best you'll ever have anywhere.
The prices are on point and the beer is good The restaurant is nice and bright with a pleasant ambience and the car park is large and tidy with plenty of space to manoeuvre a big car around in, without fear of clipping another car.
We will definitely be returning (often hopefully) 🍻

Linda the chef produced several excellent well presented meals over our 3 nights. She came out personally to check we were happy with our food which demonstrated her passion and pride in her work. Her Sunday roast was awesome just like her.|Being a locals pub we were genuinely made to feel welcome and won’t hesitate to return there. The entertainment on 2 nights really made our weekend and the open mic night is highly recommended. |Our room was one of several converted stables. Basic, clean, adequate facilities, comfy bed and excellent value for money. We especially loved the humorous painting above the bed!|We happened on the Kings Head by chance and it was literally a last minute booking. What a...
