Disappointing first visit yesterday. Booked on line for Sunday lunch 3 people @3.30pm (the only slot available). Arrived 10 mins early to be told our table was still occupied, the young lady suggested we wait outside on the balcony area (no one else out there) & she would follow to take a drinks order. Yesterday being a much more changeable day, cold & very blustery made for a very uncomfortable wait on the balcony IT WAS FREEZING & the wind was howling around the exposed area. No one arrived to take a drinks order & after a short while of being blown about & very cold we decided to go back inside. I was asked by a tall older looking male if we had a problem? He never did introduce himself & frankly at first I thought he was another customer.?? I take it from reading other reviews that he is indeed the owner/ manager. On explaining the problem he kindly offered to sort it, he showed us to some spare seats in the entrance area to sit at while we continued to wait. He returned to assure us that our table would soon be vacated & cleared for us ASAP. The same young lady who had sent us outside came to take our drinks order she also apologised for the inconvenience so far which we accepted in good humour. The 3 glasses arrived with another apology that one of the Sauvignon blancs wasn’t chilled as it was newly opened bottle! No offer was made to change this or deduct it from the eventual bill!? At 3.45 ( 15 mins after our booked slot & 25 mins after we first arrived) we were shown to our table which thankfully was in a great spot to be able to take in the far reaching view. Food order was taken, starters arrived by 4 pm. All were nicely presented & tasty. However the mains, 2 beef 1 pork were only satisfactory. All the food could have done with being hotter, York puds were cold dry & stodgy. Meat ok but not overly tasty, roast & mash potatoes ok, veg over cooked & not hot enough, cauliflower cheese which I usually love was ok, again not hot enough & the cheese sauce soon set to a thick blanket like topping. We decided against a dessert. All told not up to standard or expectations over all disappointing & expensive at a final bill of £101.18. For 2 courses each & 4 glasses of wine in total. The staff are all quite young & while some are clearly inexperienced they were however, generally very good, polite, attentive & keen. A few training issues probably required in particular with how customers are initially welcomed & attended to. Lastly, always ensure that white wine is served chilled or at least ask the customer if they have another preference ! 😉. Will we return ? Possibly, for a coffee & cake on a weekday in sunnier...
Read more⭐️⭐️⭐️ – Disappointing experience despite some positives
I’m sorry to leave a less-than-glowing review as there are definitely some positives, but overall our visit to the Landmark Cafe was disappointing.
We initially tried to book online and were placed on a waiting list, then later received an email confirming a table, though only for 90 minutes. I’d originally planned to come for tea and cake, but decided on a light lunch instead.
While there were plenty of vegetarian options, I was surprised by how limited the vegan choices were. The menu was quite confusing, with various meals only available at certain times, and no vegan sandwich options at all. I asked if I could have the smashed avocado on toast from the breakfast menu instead. The staff member at the till was somewhat helpful, but gave off a clear vibe that I was inconveniencing her.
I was eventually told I could have a sandwich, but only because it wasn’t busy today and they wouldn’t normally do it, not exactly a warm welcome. I had to suggest what to include and explain what I meant by salad, which felt awkward.
The sandwich itself was disappointing, soggy, bland, with a chunk of avocado pit left in, and possibly spread with butter (hard to tell). No one checked in to see how our meal was or if we needed anything, and our plates weren’t cleared until the cakes arrived and they needed space.
On the positive side, the venue is clean, there’s plenty of parking, the view is stunning, and the cake selection looked fantastic. Our table time was also kindly extended on request, which we appreciated.
Unfortunately, the inattentive service, lack of vegan options, and underwhelming food mean I won’t be returning. For nearly £40 spent between us, I expected better, especially when the cafe...
Read moreVisiting from Australia over the past five months where our city cafes are extremely competitive and really modern, I was unsure within the Grimsby to Louth area would have the same type of experience. I was advised by friends during my stay to visit the Landmark Cafe. What a gorgeous place with wonderful views of outstanding beauty. So relaxing. For my first 3 weeks I tried a different cafe/restaurant in the local area each day and I found Landmark to easily be the best overall for views, consistently good service and coffee/food. Therefore during the last few months of my stay I returned nearly every second day with family and friends who all loved the place. It became my local. My experience of food there was its always fresh and presented well. When ordering toast with breakfast you receive 4 half slices (more than enough), the poached eggs were perfect. I also tried their yummy porridge with blueberries (a big bowl certainly enough for me and great value for £3). I think the prices have been well thought out and are very reasonable. On cold days it was lovely and warm inside and I look forward to visiting again when I return to UK in summer to have the opportunity to sit out on their outdoor terrace. Reading other reviews: it is a relatively new place and teething problems can happen, I occasionally waited an extra 2 mins for my coffee but it didn't bother me as it's easy to get taken away but the superb views across the countryside to the dock tower in Grimsby to the left and the rolling hills towards Louth to the right. The atmosphere and ambiance is light and sunny. Landmark Cafe is easy to get to with lots of parking, even when very busy,...
