Well what can I say. What an awful experience. I would put no stars if that was an option. I attended a celebration afternoon tea there today 31/8/24 Tables and chairs all crammed together upstairs to accommodate guests, we were squashed to say the least. My niece attending with her two month old son in arms had no room to move. No handrail on the stairs to support you getting up. Very dangerous indeed for people with babies, small children and people with mobility difficulties. My granddaughter aged 4 climbed up there on her hands and knees. If all that wasnāt bad enough !! Because so many guests were in a small area my granddaughter who is autistic couldnāt cope with all the voices and sounds around her which is totally understandable. After trying her ear protectors which didnāt do enough to block out the sounds. I politely asked if there was a quiet area which we could sit. A waitress said we could sit outside the front of the building, I asked if there was another area inside, she replied that the cakes were in the other dining area but sheād see what she could do. We sat outside while I thought arrangements were being made. The waitress came out and asked us to move to the back of the venue outside because the guest was arriving who it was a surprise for, we moved to back as she requested, after around 10 minutes the waitress came back and said can you move back to the front of the building because the guest had arrived. We moved again to the front, unfortunately due to all the moving around my granddaughter was unsettled and heightened by the wasps and flies around. I asked the waitress could we please be seated indoors. She replied to my 4 year old granddaughter, you canāt sit in there ( the downstairs dining area ) because of the cakes. I said donāt speak to my granddaughter that way because itās myself who is asking the question. She said we do have another room upstairs, you can sit there. I said ok thatās great. Off we went my granddaughter on her hands and knees climbing the stairs, the waitress opened a door to a room which was dark, dingy and had a odour of damp or something, an area which reminded me of some kind of store room. At this point I was angry to say the least and said this is disgusting. Never have I encountered such service and lack of consideration for people with a disability. I left the premises and the waitress followed us outside. I did not want any confrontation or drama in front of my granddaughter. Another lady them came out and started making comments too. This is totally unacceptable and a very upsetting experience. I would advise anyone with a disability, small children or parents/carers with babies in arms not to visit there especially if thereās no seating downstairs ( because theyāre storing cakes and food in there ) you will not get a good reception or service. Health and safety issues, inconsiderate...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI can only be honest and fair in my experience yesterday with Lizzies cafe barn. To start, before we had even entered the cafe a lady came outside to us. (To my knowledge this is the owner so Iām surprised she had conducted herself in this way with it being her own business). We had a baby with us and she instantly said I didnāt know a baby was coming to the event. Itās supposed to be 16 adults and 2 children and that there was already 5 children upstairs.. this instantly would make anyone feel uncomfortable with a baby in arms. We took the baby out of the pram and upstairs to find there were actually 3 children so Iām unsure why the staff member had exaggerated. the space upstairs was small which was difficult to move around. Our younger family member, a small child, does have autism and did struggle with the small space so understandably she was taken outside by another family member as there was seating outside. I went downstairs to check on my family to check find a passive aggressive Lizzie making demands for my family to move from the seating. This happened on multiple ocassions. This is unacceptable. Please, if you are considering a friendly and child friendly facility please use another places such as gluttons, which isnāt to far. your children wonāt be welcome. staff need additional training on how to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is Not Liz at Buckingham Palace, but Lizzies Barn Cafe. You may make the same mistake if you were to visit which I highly recommend. The staff immediately made me welcome even in my mucky cycling gear, then quickly served a hot chocolate to die for being hot and chocolatie. It really hits the spot. Exquisite choice of cakes, lite bites , healthy options, proper portions, even the unhealthy breakfasts we all love. More filling meals are an option too, though these may defeat all but the biggest of appetites as they are a plate full. I now change my routes to make this a must stop on my rides, even when I turn up late I'm well looked after. So good I have called in for lunch with friends ,some non cyclists, all of whom commented on the excellent experience. As someone more famous than me said...
