We went in on a quiet Wednesday and sat at a table, after ten minutes of no service we went to view the cakes near the till to be told abruptly " could you find a table " the middle aged or maybe older woman with glasses and a ponytail then continued taking payment from a man without giving us chance to reply and say we were trying to work out what the unlabeled cakes were. She finished serving the man turned to us again and said " can you find a table" we then said " we've got a table, we are just wondering what the different cakes are please " she then said what they were and we thanked her and went back to the table to wait for service. 20 minutes later and watching the same lady wiping tables and pushing in chairs my partner went to her and said can we order please, the lady answered " I'll be with you in a minute. 10 minutes later and still no service, we walked out and drove to another cafe. Appalling and the cafe only had a few people people in it...

Little Lake District wedding reception.

We have been visiting Mae's for around 8 years now on our way to and from the lakes. We always receive great service and enjoy the food. So when we were looking for a small venue for our wedding reception we were delighted that Mae's could host it. It was absolutely perfect for us and our guests (around 50 people) Mae's provided a buffet style reception however they offered us a range of food styles and choices. The food was delicious and the service by Mark and his team was excellent. The traditional school house building and quintessential lakeland backdrop was perfect for our wedding photographs. All our guests enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the lake district surroundings. Would definitely recommend Mae's for an intimate Lake...

I don't mind waiting at all, and even though it was a quiet Wednesday morning we waited for around 15 minutes for someone to come to our table. The lady was training someone else so that's totally understandable. What I didn't like was the small amount of food. It was very nice quality, but over £25 for two Paninis and two coffees is way too expensive. I wouldn't mind if there was more salad and coleslaw to be honest. Overall a lovely cafe and gifts in a pleasant location, but please, make it worth while for us to visit again. We live locally and would like to...

Stopped at this lovely place for lunch. Set in a Victorian school. Very spacious and modern, child friendly. Sandwiches, soup and baked potatoes are amongst some of the food offerings. We were made to feel very welcome. The lady who served us spoke kindly to my children and offered them crisps and cucumber with their sandwiches rather than salad and coleslaw. Lovely experience would definitely visit again.

Proper Scones! Fruit scone was fresh, tasty and came with good quality jam. Ham sarnie was fine, maybe missing a bit of mustard or pickle. Homemade soup was good and tasty but came with a dissapointing bread roll. They do a cooked breakfast but you need to pre-order 24hrs. Good service, nice old school building, light and spacious with art gallery attached.
