We booked a table here for our first night in windermere, we were very hungry after travelling 5 hours to get to our destination, we were expecting great things from this place, my son in law knows his stuff and saw how amazing the reviews were.
So we were shown to our table, given menus straight away, there was alot of flys in the pub which puts me off if I'm honest, but I thought its warm so I get that, but do feel that needs addressing.
We had our drinks order taken and they came promptly, then our food choices were taken, we all had starters, I had mackerel, it was very uninteresting and not seasoned at all, very bland, I left half of it, my daughter had the soup which was just awful she couldn't finish it, it was so salty, she mentioned this to the waitress when she cleared our plates and said she would tell chef and apologised
Our mains came, we had rib eye steak, mushrooms, wedge like chips and a whole vine of tomatoes.... We ordered 2 portions of onion rings thinking they woukd be normal size, well they came and were as big as car tyres... Great I hear you say, yes of they weren't greasy as hell and under cooked.
So to cut a very long story short we couldn't eat our steak, mushrooms or chips they were so over salted it was painful to eat, totally ruined, the steak was tough too, I mean we live staek and have better each week from aldi
We had 2 children with us their burgers were very good and they enjoyed them, but we waited and we waited and we waited, no one came near to ask if everything was OK, then after 30 minutes she came to clear the table this is when I told her how awful it was, how salty it was and that we just can't eat it
The waitress was extremely apologetic and said they should definitely had come over and asked whilst we were eating if everything was OK and so they took the steaks off the bill....
Such a shame, I definitely wouldn't go back and wouldn't recommend either, I feel alot of changes need to be made for this place to survive in what...
Read moreI had really high hopes for eating here. I came with my partner as our first meal out on our honeymoon. We were seated quickly to a nice booth but then had a short wait for the menus, there was an apology for it though. We ordered some drinks which arrived swiftly and we then ordered our starters and mains. The starters arrived within a good time and were presented really well and tasted amazing. If I stopped at this point it would easily be a five star review.
The problems started from here where we had finished out first drinks but never had anyone passing ask if we wanted any more even though we had the empty glasses on the end of the table. We finally got to order some once the mains arrived when we were asked if we needed anything else. We did wait over 25 minutes between the starter plates being cleared and the mains arriving. The one main (rump of lamb) looked and tasted great but the other (pork loin) seemed a bit of a step down. The pork would have been better as a tenderloin rather than a chop, which is much tougher. The taste of the sauce was really good though. Our second drinks arrived as we had almost finished the meal.
We were given dessert menus promptly but had a short wait before ordering. Once ordered there was another 15-20 minute wait for the desserts to arrive. They tasted fantastic and were with the wait.
Finally where another star was lost was we were waiting a long time after the dessert plates were cleared without getting the bill. In the end we had to ask for it as we felt we had been forgotten with other tables who arrived after us getting and paying bills before us.
This could easily be a five star review if there was a bit more speed to the service and a little more...
Read moreAbsolutely brilliant from start to finish. I booked online and it was a brilliant system. My friend has lactose and ginger intolerances which I noted down on booking system. They called the day before to confirm my friends choices which I thought was brilliant and very thoughtful.
We arrived earlier than our booking and our table was available which was brilliant. I ordered the tiger prawns and goats cheese starter and my friend had the butternut squash soup which she said was brilliant. (the butter was dairy free which was the best she had!)
She had the cole fish and i had the fettuccine main. The potatoes and veg on the fish looked delicious and my fettuccine was fresh and filling, I kept asking for more cheese which they were happy to accommodate.
For dessert my friend had dairy free sticky toffee pudding and I had vanilla ice cream and the cheese board! Absolutely amazing every dessert on offer was brilliant, soufflé, chocolate tart, toffee pudding and brilliant ice creams!
The staff were really attentive accommodating and hospitable. The surroundings were warm amiable and lovely after a long day.
Parking onsite available! It really made our day how brilliant the service, food and experience was about!
1000% recommend and the very best in the area!
Thankyou so much to Leighann...
