To sum it up, if you're thinking about going here, go to McDonald's instead. Just poor

Environment 10/10 The place was a classic "American" Diner. There were pictures everywhere, furniture was amazing. Just a lovely place to be. Music was very loud but that's okay:)

Bathrooms 6.5/10 My husband went into the Men's and said it was not as clean as expected but it wasn't horrendous. I didn't go into the ladies so I can't comment.

Service 3/10 When we arrived, a waiter was cleaning the floor with no gloves on and then proceeded to hand us menus without washing his hands and didn't even say a word to us which we found extremely rude. Not even a smile. Our waitress seemed like she didn't want to be there. She was gloomy and disinterested. We had to ask for the bill twice, bearing in mind there were 3 waiters and 2 tables. She also got slightly arsey with us when we asked her a question about the bill. We couldn't order pudding because our waitress forgot to bring the menus over after we asked her 3 times. There was a 10% service charge added to the bill which we reluctantly paid. We can see why they automatically put it on there because we definitely wouldn't have tipped.

Food 4.5/10 Presentation of the food was very nice. Our starters were Mozzarella sticks and chicken wings. By god, they were so good. Taste perfect, but sadly very small portions for the price and the wings were tiny. They were served on a bed of lettuce which I thought was weird? Dips were great We both ordered different burgers. The buns were soggy which means they were low quality buns. The burger patties had no flavour to them sadly. Fries were lovely Milkshakes were awful. It was like drinking watered down milk. You could've made a better milkshake with Nesquik. Extremely disappointing. All round average food. I also felt very sick that night and the next morning, it wasn't food poisoning but it was as close as.

Cleanliness 2.3/10 The menus were dirty (photo attached) When we arrived, we were sat on a dirty table so we moved ourselves (because we were the only people in there at first) It was just plain dirty. Bearing in mind there was nobody there and 6 members of staff (including the manager and chefs), this was just unacceptable. Absolutely vile, I felt uneasy about even eating here because of the filth but we decided to as we had driven so far. There was a fork underneath our table, the sides were dirty etc Our waitress was wearing a filthy apron

I would love to rate this place average but sadly it just didn't even live up to that. My husband and I dined here this week with low expectations due to the reviews but we saw the food looked good so...

After visiting this place this evening for a birthday meal, I am absolutely appalled by the service and food that we received. I would honestly recommend going to a Wetherspoons and saving some money.

To begin with, we booked for a large party and when we arrived we were told that not all of our party could sit on our table with us. This was after they were decorating our table with banners, as we were stood waiting for it (so much for the surprise). We booked the table weeks ago, so if there was a chance that not all of us could sit together then they should have told us.

After that, an older lady with blonde hair and glasses (possibly the manager) began trying to tell one of the party members how to parent their child, then proceeded to get even closer to her face and say ‘do you not understand me’ just because this party members first language isn’t English (what this woman had said was perfectly understood, she was just absolutely gobsmacked at her rudeness, to reply)

The food wasn’t anything great, in fact quite poor and when a lady came to clear our plates I explained to her that 3 of our meals, weren’t what they said on the menu. She walked away and then after hearing all the staff talk about me for a good 10 minutes she came back over and was extremely rude to me and told me that I’d eaten half of it so there was nothing she could do. I tried explaining to her that I was only making her aware of the situation, but she wouldn’t listen and proceeded to talk at me rudely, repeatedly telling me I have to pay because I didn’t complain until now (although not one person checked on our table whilst we were eating, for me to mention it previous) and my intentions were never to get any money off the bill in the first place.

Lastly something that was also rather annoying is the fact that there is a code for the toilet, that no one is told about. Throughout our meal because we were sat closest to the toilets, we were repeatedly having to give people the code due to no staff being around.

There was so much wrong with the service here it is atrocious, which is a shame because years ago it used to be such a nice and welcoming place...

We planned this visit as a half-way stop on our route to Devon. Looks good online and despite some pretty bad reviews (mostly commenting on bad service and the poor English spoken by staff) we decided it was worth the risk - we were wrong!

I ordered the Full English Breakfast and asked for them to leave off the beans and tomato. When it arrived it was complete with beans and tomato. I pointed this out and the waitress took it away only to bring it back one minute later with the tomato removed and the beans scraped off the plate. At this point I said I’d rather cancel and not order anything but the waitress insisted she would get a fresh breakfast cooked, which she did (I think 😬). The sausages were advertised as homemade which they certainly were not, the bacon was distinctly average, the fried bread was greasy and the fried eggs looked so bad I didn’t even try them. My mother-in-law had eggs Benedict which were cold. My daughter had the full English which came with cold bacon and cold beans. When she complained the waitress called the cook over who said, “they can’t be cold, I cooked them just a minute ago”, then walked off never to return. There were fourteen of us eating and no one was happy with the food.

When we went to pay my daughter said she wasn’t happy to pay for her breakfast. The manager eventually and begrudgingly said she would take off 50% which my daughter refused and said she wasn’t going to pay for a cold breakfast she hadn’t eaten.

Although dissatisfied with both the service and food everyone else paid in full just to avoid any further unpleasantness.

If you can avoid this place then absolutely you should! Don’t be sucked in by the online photos and promises of homemade produce. It’s actually the dictionary definition of a greasy spoon with...

Took my kids to **Mattia Diner** after they’d been once before with their grandparents and couldn't stop talking about the milkshakes—so we had to go back and experience it together. They each picked their favourite milkshakes again, and I have to say, they really are top-tier—thick, creamy, and full of flavour. Definitely the highlight of the visit! We all had burgers—I went for the Marilyn Monroe Classic Burger with golden fried onions. It was tasty, and you can tell some thought goes into the presentation, but I did feel the portion size was on the smaller side for the price. We also ordered garlic bread, but honestly, it was more like warm bread without much garlic flavour. The nachos were another bit of a letdown—lacking the usual cheesy, saucy toppings that make nachos a go-to snack. However, what really made the visit enjoyable was the **friendly and welcoming staff. They were great with the kids, very attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our visit. The diner itself was super clean and had a fun, American-style atmosphere that the kids loved. We finished off the trip by letting the kids choose some of their favourite American candy to take home—which they were thrilled about. All in all, the milkshakes and service really stood out. If you're heading to Mattia Diner, I'd absolutely recommend it for the milkshakes, the experience, and the warm hospitality—just maybe skip the garlic bread and nachos next time.
