Nanny state Britain at its worst. I sat down at a table in a hot summer’s day and opened an umbrella to be told by a clucky hen that I couldn’t do that as it was too windy and it’s a health & safety problem (it’s Aug and there was a slight bit of breeze every now and then). No one wants to sit in blinding hot heat without shade. I walk out and back past and there is someone else sitting at the same table with the umbrella completely opened out and the clucky hen sees him and says nothing - so what was that all about? A power trip? It’s August 2022 and despite the revised deaths, partying politicians knowing there was zero public health threat to healthy people they still have signs up asking you to mask up and use the one way system. Look at the state of the economy due to this hysteria and nannying in general - this country is becoming unrecognisable, these people now need to be...

Great tea room right next to the lock. Good selection of home made cakes, coffees, teas and cold drinks. Food made fresh to order. Reasonable prices and food and drinks were quick to come. A few tables inside and a covered area outside as well as some picnic tables.

Top Tip 1. The car park is opposite and is very popular with walkers and users of the canal so at busy times worth getting there earlier. There is a disabled car park right next to the tearooms for about 5 cars, so same applies

Top tip 2. There are only a few tables inside so essential to book especially for afternoon tea.

Top tip 3. Support local. Use it or lose it. Put the money back into the area rather than the chain cafes.

Top tip 4. Try the planets walk opposite. The sun is a short walk away at lower lock. The planets are spaced out along the towpath and ate...

The tearoom at Maunsel Lock is a hidden gem. Back in the olden days... (pre-pandemic) it was a lovely little haven of tranquility with the most amazing home baked cakes and buns (my favourite) along with a selection of pasties and baps and hot drinks.

Post-lockdown, they are open again... Now with a one way takeaway system that works perfectly well. Same high quality cakes (thank goodness said my tum!) There is plenty of grass to sit on nearby, along with a few benches a short walk along the canal.

This place serves food that is five star any day of the week. Even veggie daughter said the cheese and onion pasty she had was the best one she had ever tasted.

Get here and enjoy the peace and quiet and a coffee and a bun. You...

Lovely place to stop for lunch and even though today was in the 30's there were tables outside with shade for us to choose from. Food was lovely, staff very friendly and their Covid-19 procedures were very clear and it all worked very well. Also the added bonus of being part of the Eat Out to Help Out offer that we weren't previously aware of made the lunch even more enjoyable! Will definitely be back and on a cooler day we will take a walk along the canal :-)

We both thoroughly loved it here, the staff was all very pleasant and the place itself was in a great position by the canal. There's a carpark close to this quiet out of the way tearoom, plenty of people come here and it can get rather busy. We had the soup and a piece of cake ( raspberry ripple, mmm) and it was really nice and some thought went into the meal. We'll definitely be popping in again when we come through.😁👍

Possible the worst chocolate milkshake I have ever had in my 70 years extremely weak and l only drink milk shake not milk and thus was basically milk. The chocolate brownie was very sweet for me and sadly the Coronation chicken would have our Queen turning in her grave. Fantastic location, very slow service and actually not even that friendly
