We've just had breakfast at this venue. Before arriving we checked to see if dogs were allowed and we were told yes. On arriving, my daughters (aged six and three) were greeting by the hostess. Let's put it this way, we probably should have asked if children were allowed too because her reception was frosty to put it mildly.
We had to go up to the counter to order because no one attended our table. The food was nice, well cooked, and came quickly. Unfortunately the coffee tasted burned and it was only palatable with sugar.
During our meal, another dog entered the cafe which caused some disruption. Without waiting for the other dog to leave (as it was doing) and our dogs to settle, the hostess came over and asked us to leave, mid-meal. My sister offered to take the dogs out to the car and asked if her breakfast may be packed up. The hostess just looked blank and said you'll have to take the plate (no mean feat with two dogs in tow). In the end, my sister sat outside, in November, in the rain, to eat her meal.
On leaving, I suggested to the hostess that she should have a no dogs policy as a small disruption between unknown dogs is quite normal. Her response, "Well, I have dogs and I wouldn't let them do that". I'm fairly certain that any dog owner reading this will agree that all dogs get excited when close to a new dog and the best course of action is to let them meet and then settle them down again.
My personal opinion is that this woman wasn't keen on our custom from the moment we walked through the door as we had a very tired three year old with us and she used the dogs as an excuse. I honestly believe that if you're going to run a small business, such as a cafe, you should make the effort to be warm and friendly to people as well as understanding when they have children with them. I do not believe you will receive friendly service from this cafe unless you fit the criteria of the people they...
