Not our first time but definitely our last. Shocking birthday experience, such a let down. Four of us dined for my birthday Fri 30th Sept. 7.30 sitting. Like a Ghost town only 2 other diners. Out of 2 starters. Ordered steak medium to well done received raw, chips were beautifully presented & dry & fluffy at first till taken away. Husband had to go looking for staff to return steak as they were all in the kitchen, even bar staff! Sadly the steak was returned very uncooked again and chips had been obviously put back in the fryer which were now full of fat. Husbands burger was the opposite burnt to a cinder. Apologies given but sadly not good enough. Such a beautiful setting, not sure if the chef has left or it was his night off but after such a disaster for a birthday we will not be going again. We’ve come for sparkly afternoon tea experience here through Virgin.

Booked a table ahead and were lead straight to it, got asked if we’d like any tea or coffee but that was the one and only time anyone has asked or checked in with us overall.

The food itself was great although didn’t meet what was written on the menu exactly. The cheese and tomato sandwiches were replaced by cucumber sandwiches and dill and salmon somehow was butter and salmon which just tasted odd. Scones were warm and lovely - definitely the highlight out of the whole set.

It seemed like we were the only table that didn’t get checked up on and had to “flag down” a member of staff when we wanted another drink or tried to “pay”. Not really sure what the reason for this was but definitely did let the experience down!

Booked online for afternoon tea, received an email confirmation of our booked. Arrived at 12 midday as per email confirmation to be told that our booking could not be accommodated. As we drove down the driveway they sent a further email to cancel the booking, shame this wasn't sent 3 hours earlier saving us the preparation and travel time. Exceptionally poor customer service. Following the visit I emailed to ask if the email address I had was appropriate to give feedback, instant response received seeming keen to hear...No response received to date explanding the terrible...
