We were recommended to go here over 3 other locals and were really pleased we listened. Nice pint and our usual yardstick of the homemade burger. If a place can get a basic burger right then the rest of the menu should be good too so on our next visit we would try something else. Well go here the burger is top rate and oh dear the batter on the onion rings is the best I have come across. Pulled from a John Smith pump and light airy and fluffy. To die for. Salad nicely dressed and the pickles in the bun perfect. Cheese melted nicely but one small gripe is bacon needs skin trimming and cooking a bit crispier. That is the way I like it so will ask for it to be cooked that way next time. On the Beer front my first choice was on the turn and was changed with no murmur. A good old fashioned pub the like of which is disappearing rapidly Go, keep these pubs alive you won’t be disappointed.

We were there on Wednesday night for burger night. We have 4 teenage kids, who rarely go out for meals so this was so exciting for them. Sadly 3 out of the 6 burgers were inedible as they were so severely undercooked. The smell coming from the burgers was absolutely awful. This was such a shame, as the staff and the place itself were so lovely. It was a massive disappointment. Thankfully no one was ill. This was due to us noticing the raw meat and stopping them from eating it. Sadly we will never be able to return to the Moorcock Inn. The kids were looking forward to puddings but unfortunately we did not feel that we could stay. The bill for 6 burgers and 6 drinks was £95. On explaining and showing the staff the raw meat they agreed to knock £10 off the bill. We had intended to go back on Thursday for pie night but unfortunately we had lost all confidence.

Had an excellent meal at the Moorcock Inn, Eggleston! The food was delicious and well-priced. The staff were super friendly and made us feel right at home. A fantastic experience all around – highly recommend!

On Sunday last my daughter booked a table for 5, for a celebratory birthday lunch for her partner. For a start the dining area resembled a rundown school refectory. Or as my daughter's Russian partner described it: Soviet with paint! The runner on our table was crumpled and crooked as well, and had we not travelled a long distance to get there we would have left at once. A very noisy family and another with a dog did nothing for the ambience. Nevertheless, we ordered our food: 4 roasts and the only vegetarian option, a pie whose crust was all but impenetrable and whose filling was inedible! As for the roasts, they all arrived swimming in onion gravy. This should never happen. The meat in all cases was thinly sliced and tough. The vegetables were presented in a bowl, but without a serving utensil. Also the bottled mineral water was served with the tops unscrewed, so you did not know exactly what you were getting. We did complain and were told that the chef would be informed. With hindsight we should have refused to pay, but we just wanted to get away from there as quickly...
