Food not hot enough. Disappointing. The mashed potato was cold. I had the £8.00 Sunday roast chicken dinner. Ordered it at the main till at 11.27am. No wow factor. I eat with my eyes and taste buds. This meal was not even fit for my cat. Looked more like a dog's dinner! The top small table for two was grubby. Cleaned it myself. The cauliflower lacked cheese sauce. The stuffing balls were hard. Disappointed not being the half chicken as previously eaten several months ago. It was a small piece of breast. Tasty. A filling meal but over priced. £8.00 is a lot to pay out for a substandard meal. Would I have it again. No. Sooner buy a whole cooked chicken for £6.50 in the main store. The friendly café manageress mentioned I should have spoken up at the start so the food could have been reheated. I felt too embarrassed but was annoyed by the time I had finished eating the meal. She kindly offered me a free meal in the future. I declined. I am not after a free meal. It is not what I am about. I am a soft Southerner and expect better. Northerners are given a lesser service compared to Londoners like myself. I expect a good cooked meal. I just want the food to be hot enough and of a better quality for other customers too. Beverley deserves a higher standard despite being a working class café with small kids playing on the floor. Most of the clientele are pensioners, blue collar workers and young families with kids. The café needs professional help. It needs to do something different to survive. Cut, cut, cut and being prudent is not the way forward. As a suggestion bring in Gordon Ramsay or Jamie Oliver. Apparently, no cooking takes place in the vast kitchen. The food is brought in and reheated. The Wetherspoon chain of pubs do the same with their food. I shan't eat at this café again until the food is of a better quality. The prices keep going up but the food changes to a lower quality. It was a negative meal today. Below standard. Even the sausages for the breakfasts are of a cheap quality. Have Lincolnshire sausages or similar for a change please. I ain't a happy customer. I miss the old café when it was on the right of the store over 25 years ago. It was the best. Not now. It is sinking fast. I have been a Beverley resident for 36 years. Now retired. I dress down but not stupid. It is a storm in a teacup but I am so angry. Will speak up when push comes to shove. Fallen out of love for this café. Pity when the staff are so nice and work hard. I don't blame them but the conditions they have to work under. Morrisons please stop doing things on the cheap because of targets and market forces. It shows. Probably got worse when Morrisons was sold off to an American private equity firm called CD&R in 2021. I am prepared to take it further so that this meal can be pulled from the Morrisons...
Read moreHaving read some reviews before arriving I have to concur: the food is nice however, it wasn't hot and looked like it had been in the warmer or under the heat lamps for a wee while. I had a sausage missing from my meal (I didn't ask about it as I wasn't too bothered).
Definitely find a table and order from there instead of using the self-service kiosk it's so much easier.
The staff were lovely when we did interact with them and it seemed clean and tidy enough for a cafe. The food/drink collection area was very clean but the cutlery and seasoning/condiments area was as you'd expect of an English cafe (constantly untidy)
It looked like the cafe was set up for customers to return their own trays and dishwasher to the stations by the cutlery bit but, if you didn't get a tray at that self-service kiosk then there was no way for you to do this and that then led to tables being left uncleared for longer than normal and things like napkins and condiment wrappings on the seats and floor. *not much anyone can do about this one really unless the staff leaves the tray with you when they deliver your food.
Overall, an ok place for a quick and very reasonably priced bit to eat....
Read moreI used the QR code after finding a table. To order a full English breakfast it is straightforward to use, but there is no ability to request that an item isn't included. I'm not a fan of baked beans, but as the photograph on the menu showed them nicely contained within a small pot on the plate, I agreed that I'd go ahead and just pass them over to the person I was eating with. When the food was brought to the table, the beans were not in a separate pot, but all over the plate, under the sausages and toast. So, not as 'advertised' then. It didn't take long to be brought a new breakfast without beans, but it's obvious that the 'app' for ordering from the table simply lacks functionality. Also, if I see on a menu that there are two sausages or two rashers of bacon, I'd rightly expect there to be two of each. That's what I paid for, that's what I got. Why, therefore, is it that if the menu mentions 'tomato' there is only half a tomato included? That's clearly not right. So - please change the menu to be accurate and have a look at adding onto the 'app' the ability to ask for an item not to...
