Last weekend on Sat & Sun I called in at the The Old Pub & had a very nice experience with a coffee & breakfast therefore decided to book a table for last night of which I did by calling in to organise a 7.30 pm booking. On arrival at 7.30 we ordered our drinks & a starter to get us going i.e. ask for for a Platter but were told there no platter left but they said a alternative platter could be sorted but they had no mushrooms, we also ordered a prawn starter. within 5 mins of ordering our starter we were told the kitchen closes at 8pm i.e. in 20 mins time. At no point when I booked was informed of this to which I was surprised especially it being a Saturday evening. We proceeded to order our main course's our choices being Fish & then were told of 3 items were now not available on the menu after we had studied the very small list of options. We ordered 2 x pie & 1 x Cesar Salad. The Caesar Salad consisted of lettuce with a dressing & slices of cheese at the bottom of the bowl , a piece of half toasted piece of bread with a slice of bacon on top which was hard & stale topped with a piece of very tough chicken breast basically the whole dish was awful & tasteless. The pie dish was greasy & obviously microwaved. Adjacent tables were still left with with dirty dishes etc from the previous occupants of which I had to ask for these to be removed as it was mess. The gents toilets were messy & wet on the floor! On presenting the bill there was a Optional Gratuity of 10% of which I was most surprised being in a country pub. I will state the staff were very pleasant & polite but clearly lacking in some points as described above i.e. No leader or manager in sight. Such a shame as the venue & location could be stunning but with the service & poor food presented I am no sure it will be there for a long period Kind Regards a...
Read moreVisited this pub last week after a recommendation. We arrived and sat outside and ordered drinks. We were told that they only had one each of the two pie options left. When ordering the food we ordered one chicken and chorizo and one beef and veg pie. A few minutes later we were told the only had one beef and veg left so my wife ordered the beef cheek and mash instead. When the food arrived I cut into the pie to discover it was chicken and chorizo. I didn't say anything as I was happy with either pie. However the pie did not contain much filling and very little chorizo. The veg was raw. I did eat it as I was hungry and I don't know of anybody dying from raw kale. The beef cheek was tasteless and the mash was like a runny puree. We decided to not risk a dessert and decided to leave. I did tell two of the waiters my thoughts and they both apologised. So we paid our £58 bill and walked out. As I walked to my car I was approached by a gentleman who I assume was either the manager or owner asking for my email address. I asked why and he said he would sent me a discount voucher for another meal. I told him we do not live in the area (we were staying at a fab campsite up the road) so returning was not an option. He took my email address anyway and said he would contact me. He hasn't. Would I recommend the pub, no. There is too much choice in the area to waste...
Read moreWe've just enjoyed a delicious meal here and are so happy it has been lovingly refurbished and reopened! The food was amazing and did not disappoint. I enjoyed the scallops and my husband the ham hock and it took a lot of willpower not to just pick up the shell and lick it clean! My duck was cooked to perfection, crispy skin and pink in the middle. My husband's scampi was also spot on with 'proper hand cut chips'. The desserts were just a perfect ending to the meal, I personally am not a fan of sorbet so I asked it to be swapped for the cherry crumble ice cream to go with the lemon posset... game changer! The brownie was equally enjoyed by my husband. All in all a pretty perfect meal, staff were very attentive and friendly. Tables were very spaced out which we appreciated even more as we had a pram and it was nowhere near the next table. Everything was also thoroughly cleaned between customers, including chairs. Well worth a visit you'll not be...
