Saturday we were on a five-hour drive home. We decided to stop for a quick coffee, mindful we had little time to spare. I googled an independent shop, as community business is important to us.
First, we really struggled to get the wheelchair through 2 heavy doors. We were so thankful that a customer gave us a hand. But what happened next was unbelievable. As we fought through the inaccessible space towards a free table, the waitress rushed to0wsrdsvthe table. She leaned across me, in the space of my chair to put a reserved sign on the table. LITERALLY BARRING MY EAY, AND TRYING TO STOP ME FROM SITTING DOWN!! Quite deliberately putting a sign down, that was not there as I left the wheelchair, but there by the time I sat down?! We were incredulous!
As a disabled woman Iāve got used to bad service, it is often unintentional, I know. But this was deliberately cruel & nasty.
I'm afraid I was rude when asked to wait another 10 minutes; I'm very sorry but I was incredibly upset that my personal space had been invaded and at being ignored when trying to transfer from the āchair - it is really painful. We would have easily and happily vacated the table before the time on the reserved sign.
I don't know who provided your disability equality training, but they should have explained what a reasonable adjustments is. Or have you ignored it??
The service we got in Greggs later on was so...

Baby, child and dog friendly the lovely staff make everyone welcome in this attractive, cosy cafe. Outside, in addition to plenty of tables for a sunny day, there is a childrenās playground, football pitch, basketball and tennis courts and bowling green - in other words, plenty to keep the family happy while you relax with a drink and delicious homemade cake or something from the menu. The place is a gem - just off the north bound A1 a few miles south of Alnwick. We advise you plan your journey North around a break there or your whole day around a meal there. Youāll want to come back - we...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGoing against the grain with this review but Iām not a one off customer like many Iāve read recently.
Iāve been coming here quite often for over 10 years (I live 10 minutes away) and the place has declined in the past few years so I stayed away but today I thought Iād give it a go seeing we were there.
Two oat milk flat whites and a fruit shoot to take away was the order. Coffee was bland and no foam. Might as well has just had an instant coffee. Fruit shoot was kept on a shelf so not even cooled. Ā£9.70. For the quality, very steep. And to top it off, you canāt wait at the end for a coffee or outside at the back like you used to, no. Stay in the corridor next to the toilets and weāll bring it to you. To top it off, the lids werenāt put on correctly so blew off within seconds of going outside.
Overall, you can see how itās gone from a decent place to meet up or grab a coffee after taking to dog for a walk or kids to the park with decent food and friendly staff but within the last two years itās gone. Prices are up, service has lost the smile and as with plenty round here, itās to serve the holiday makers....
