I love staying in bed & breakfast pubs and my stay in the New Inn is one of the best. It’s an authentic country pub with a fantastic selection of beer and other drinks. The food is superb – all made to order by a really talented chef. They use local produce where possible. I especially enjoyed breakfast and had the veggie option with melt-in-the-mouth grilled haloumi and other delicious items. I was unable to stay for Sunday roast lunch but I was told by another customer that it is excellent. My bedroom was very tranquil and the bed really comfy. Everything was clean and I could tell the ensuite bathroom was newly installed. The pub is in the tiny and picturesque village of Appletreewick which is surrounded by a stunningly beautiful Yorkshire Dales landscape. I’m planning to return in winter because the New Inn has open fires and leather chesterfield sofas in the snug and I intend to slump by the fire and drink the local ales after a hearty Sunday roast lunch.

What an absolute gem of a place this is! We managed to get a last minute 2 night stay, along with an evening meal on the first night, and lunch on the second day. The food on offer certainly wasn't your typical "pub grub", but instead was more towards the bistro end of bistro-pub, exceeding expectations at every turn. The pork I had was some of the best I've eaten, and the mushroom risotto my partner had was sublime. I may recommend that the pork, which was an exceedingly thick cut, perhaps be served with a steak knife next time? The breakfast the next morning was great, but the lunch we had was exceptional, with the mushrooms on toast and the fried chicken both being outstanding. We will definitely be back for another visit as soon as possible, and wish the new owners all the success with their new venture, which already promises to be a firm favourite among many!

New owners since Oct 2024 have made a real difference to this old Yorkshire Dales pub. Six hand pulled ale and a real fire made an ideal location to unwind after a days great walking. There’s also a beer garden with outstanding views over Wharfdale. We expected good and the normal standard of pub food but the menu was exciting and the quality simply outstanding. Orkney mussels with wild garlic, or whipped beetroot and blue cheese as starters. Mains included glazed Ox heart or lamb, creamed leeks and buttery, creamy mash with a sumptuous gravy for example. Room was clean comfy and the view we got is the best we have ever had from a hotel. Anywhere. Ever!

I rang up to book at table 3 days in advance. The owner answered the phone and was freindly at this point, and explained that the kitchen is closed on Mondays and that they are closed all day on Tuesdays to give the chef a some time off. Fair enough. No issues with that. I explained that I am coeliac and don't eat meat because I struggle to digest it because of the damage left by not being diagnosed with CD for 12 years, but that I DO eat fish. The options that are labelled as gluten free on their menu are all meat. The lady said she'd speak to the chef on Wednesday and I replied that I'd ring back late morning to see what they could do foodwise for me. Again, so far so good! When I rang back the owner said she hadn't had a chance to speak to the chef yet and she'd ring me back later with a answer to what her chef could do to work round my dietry needs - again fair enough. She duly rang me back and said her chef was not happy about preparing food for someone with 'a severe coealiac allergy' (being picky CD is an auto immune condition not an allergy) as 'he'd have to clean the entire kitchen down just for me!' When I pointed out that their menu lists gluten free options I was told that the chef could serve those as they are on their gluten free list! I asked if their food was preprepared then and not cooked fresh to order. The owner said all their food is cooked to order. She also kept saying she didn't understand what I was asking her! What I wanted to know was why, if the food is cooked to order and they are able to provide the options listed as g/free on their menu, was it such a problem to provide an alternative - esp after I had explained why I couldn't eat certain foods! Surely the kitchen would need to be scrubbed down for the gluten free food listed on the menu as well as for something that could be prepared without gluten that isn't on their menu! I am genuinely not a fussy or faddy eater - I'd be quite happy with some veg and fish, but I ended the call feeling like I was being viewed as a problem! I have never had this before EVER, even in other eateries which have tiny kitchens, which is one of the other reasons I was given, so I am mystified as to why the New Inn made this into such an issue! We had to cancel our booking which is a shame as we like to support pubs knowing how they are struggling at the moment! I hope that any customers who have coeliac disease - or any other food allergy - who go to the New Inn to eat get served, and aren't just asked to leave, and that the kitchen IS cleaned down for customers needing the g/free options listed on their menu! Judging by some of the other less than 4 or 5 star ratings I am not expecting a positive response from the owner, but it is hard enough being coeliac without being told the chef is not prepared to cook for you! So in summary great pub and great food by the sounds of it as long as you don't have any allergies or a food related auto immune condition, but if you do you will be discrimiated against! I repeat I have NEVER been turned away from an eatery before because I have coeliac disease! Very disappointed! My advice to the owner, stop pandering to your chef and remember that people with genuine special dietry requirements do not choose to have these! The customer should come first,...

We stopped here for lunch after a short walk along the river from masons campsite where we were staying.

We went to the pub down the road a couple of nights earlier and had a nice meal but with a frosty and rude reception/service.

The contrast at the New Inn was striking....really warm and friendly welcome, great range of beers and a simple yet really attractive menu displayed on chalk boards on the wall with lots of tasty pub favourites to choose from.

We went with beef sandwiches with chips and gravy, a steak and ale pudding with chips and mushy peas and for our son....who is incredibly picky, the friendly staff said they could rustle up an off-menu sausage sandwich for him which was incredibly helpful.

The pub itself is cosy and quaint, a no frills but comfortable traditional pub. We were just hoping for some reasonably nice pub grub. After a very short wait, the food came out and was exceptional......way better than you'd expect from such an unfussy pub. The beef in the sandwiches was melt in the mouth, cooked to perfection with some of the best gravy I've had, excellent chips too. Our daughter wolfed down her steak and ale pudding....again, impeccably cooked and full of flavour. The sausage sandwich (made with home made sausages we were later informed) was excellent too.

This place is a hidden gem and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone either camping round here or passing through. We'll be making a separate trip back for their Sunday lunch at some point in the...

Always really loved this pub when Sarah use to own it. We have always stopped in for a drink after our walks, and we really wanted to support the new owners and give the food ago.

Very disappointed with the service, The pub was dead, yet we could only have one menu between two of us. Even though no one was in.

I questioned the menu prior to ordering as I didn’t know if chips came with the burger. I asked what the muscles were served with the owners response was “it’s what it says on the menus” no bread - who doesn’t serve muscles with bread? I was very confused by her response , as on the menu it didn’t say chips came with the burger! - I only asked a polite simple question

When the food arrived it was so salty! I had the mussels, some of which were closed! my partner had a crispy chicken sandwich there was nothing crispy about it and he said it tasted of fish. Also when we received our food there was no hospitality, we were not offered any salt , pepper or condiments (not that the food needed salt) but some ketchup for the burger would have been lovely.

When our plates were collected food was left, there wasn’t any comments “was the food ok?” “Did you enjoy?”

We usually eat at the cravens, where the food is delicious , but we wanted to give the new inn a chance.

I found the new owner very very rude, Stand offish and not welcoming in anyway shape or form! - she only seemed happy when she was taking your...
