Stopped by for lunch today (Good Friday) ā we didnāt book in advance but when we called yesterday you were happy for us to walk in. When we arrived, we were horrified with the service by 1 staff member who āwelcomedā us. Asked us if we booked, we said no, and he walked away looking for a table without saying anything to us. Then when he moved some bits off one table next to the bar, he said āthis will have to doā under his breath but since I was watching him I realised he was talking to us from across the room, so we walked to the table. He then walked away so I asked for a high chair for my 10months old baby while heās still earshot away which he nodded to but continued walking. He never came back to our table with menus or asking what we wanted for lunch. My husband went to order our drinks at the bar and again was faced with this manās weird attitude to which we finished our drinks, paid, and walked out. If you donāt have space or are fully booked, just tell us- we can go to a different pub (we did anyway). Donāt seat us and then treat us as if youāre doing us a favour! Just before we left another staff member asked if I wanted a high chair for my son (we didnāt receive one earlier when I asked for one), but it was too late, we were already leaving by the time another staff noticed us. We rushed our drinks because we felt so unwelcomed and left wishing we didnāt even bother with drinks. Shame because Iām sure the food isnāt bad from other reviews on here. But the treatment we got from that 1 staff member who sadly was the only one who we interacted with (before the other waitress noticed we were struggling before we left) was so poorly, I really donāt want to spend our money there on a meal, especially since it was meant to be a belated Motherās Day treat for me. Such a sad...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreVery poor indeed. Ok so second time of going a couple of years apart with a big family group. First off access is good lots of parking and wheel chair friendly all big ticks. The atmosphere is none existing, it's neither historic or moder and is on the scale of a weatherspoons feel. It's a stop off not a destination. Beer, slightly higher than I would expect from a pub such as this, it's not London prices but not far from either. Beer is not the best kept judging by the Guinness I had which clearly was either a barrel over 7 days old or they had not cleaned the lines for some time as it was bitter in taste and not as a Guinness should be. Food food starter was mixed platter. Not sure it was a good combo the cheese and bread would have made a sufficient starter all the greasy onion rings etc would have been better left as a separate dish. So uch promise but didn't deliver. Had the Sunday roast. Good amount of meat - not the best cut in the world but was passable. Veg was pretty much non existing and the potatoes were not what I would expect for the price paid. Food was not overly hot when it came out and there was a fair bit left on a few plates from group. Staff were a bit slow to sort any issues and replace cutlery used for starters rhey only set on knife and fork at a time. Sure was not done dinning and would not be a place I would book to go back to as so many other nice local Sunday lunch pubs around. With its close proximity to bath and the surrounding countryside there are I'm sure nicer places to go. If you're passing and need to find somewhere quick then it will fuel you up. Was very busy though seems quantity over quality may be order of the day in the area. Over all opinion is low quality bit rubbish service and atmosphere was more dead than the side of...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI wanted to organise a family gathering and needed a venue that could cope with more than just a handful of guests. This place turned out to be perfect! My enquiry's, initially by phone and then more detailed through emails, were dealt with quickly and thoroughly by Helena who explained everything required. On the day, which was a Sunday, my wife and I arrived twenty minutes before our time and were greeted and shown our tables and place settings by Tina and Robyne. Everything looked perfect and we sat down to enjoy a drink, having been assured all was in good hands and nothing was too much trouble. Robyne, in particular, took care of us during our meal and both her and Tina were always on hand to make sure our day went well. Our groups age ranged from a 3 year old to an 84 year old, and consisted of 15 adults and 10 children. The food was lovely and ordered from all sorts of menus on offer that day. The service was outstanding, friendly and prompt. The garden play area was a target for the kids but unfortunately the weather was awful and could only be used closer to the end of our 4 hour stay. The day was a massive success and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone there. Generally the venue was very busy due to the fact that as well as our gathering, they were also catering for another larger party, plus all the normal couples, families and walk-ins that they get. They obviously have a very good team and coped brilliantly as we never for a minute felt rushed or left waiting. A superb venue that wholeheartedly gets my recommendation.
Many thanks to all the staff at The New Inn,...
