I booked lunch at No 19 as a thank you for my son who had taken me on a lovely holiday and I wsh that I hadn't bothered. Even though there were many vacant tables in the area of the restaurant overlooking the golf course, we were placed at a dirty table which was covered with crumbs and liquid, black napkins and stained chairs, by the door in a cold draught and looking out onto the car park. Not what I had envisaged when I made the reservation. There was no welcome from the staff, no wine list with the menu and when we asked for it, were given a choice of six wines only. The £35 Chilean bottle of Sauvignon Blanc was awful. I wish we'd left then. The tables started to fill up and the noise levels rose. My son had a humous starter and roast beef for his main course, and I opted for the salmon as my main, no starter. The portions were small and my salmon smelt awful - even my son commented on it. Unfortunately, I suffered when we arrived home. We decided to cut our loses and didn't have dessert, but were still presented with a bill for £84.90. I spoke to the waitress and she advised that a lot of people were under the impression that they were going to a restaurant, but in fact, it's "just a club house", she advised, and golfers drinking were given the best tables. Apart from the fabulous setting, I can in no way recommend this restaurant nor the food and drink which were overpriced and of poor quality.

Heading for breakfast on a Tuesday morning we realised it was too early for our usual breakfast stop in Wylam and we Googled places nearby that would be open for 8am. No. 19 came up as a search result and the photos looked good so we set the sat nav and headed over not really knowing what to expect but needing a cooked breakfast! We were immediately impressed by the Close House Estate when we pulled into the grounds. Well maintained, good parking and everything was well signposted and easy to find. We were seated in the largely empty restaurant which slowely filled up while we were there. Lovely open room with large windows over looking the surrounding golf course, pond and woodland. The decor is modern and clean, with nice architectural touches and plenty of space between tables. We chose the full English Breakfast and Eggs Royale. The full English was well cooked, presented and tasty. The Eggs Royale was a classic, with well balanced flavours and a very good hollandaise sauce. We had a latte and an americano and both were tasty. Service was friendly and attentive. Having found No.19 almost by chance we are keen to visit again and try their lunch and evening offerings. A nice spot to enjoy a good meal in a pleasant relaxed environment.

No.19 Restaurant Close House - a new discovery and what a refreshing one. I went with a friend, and for both of us it was a first. She's even toying with the idea of joining the golf academy after this little adventure. We set off for a stroll, distracted by the scenery and wandered a touch too close to the golfers' kingdom - rewarded with a few shouts reminding us beauty is best admired off the fairway. Oops 😅 Our detour ended perfectly at No.19, where time slipped away in food, chatter and that relaxed buzz only a place like this creates. Yes, it's very much a gentleman's leisure domain, but it's also where locals come for lunch, where mums with prams (I counted two today) pause for a coffee and where catching up seems to be the real sport of the day. ⛳🏌️‍♂️😉
