Ocean Palace — Restaurant in England

I have never been Ocean Palace before. And never going again.. This night started with my friend who chose the Starter Chicken which was Pink, we informed the waiter who then said "no its meant to be like that" (bare in mind when the pink area was press blood came out). Another friend ordered the Veggy Main course which was nice until she spooned a small black hair out of her rice, we asked for one of the waiters to come over and he just took her dish of rice away and came back with clean bowl and left the contaminated boiled rice pot. If that wasn't enough the waiting staff never spoke, nor smiled and made us (a party of five) feel very uncomfortable. After hearing very good reviews about Ocean Palace and having received the poor service, it left us all feeling very disappointed.

Food 3/10 due to uncooked food and poor hygiene levels.

Staff and Service 0/10 due making us feel undermined about complaining. (If your staff are going to complain about a customer make sure it's not done on the restaurant floor where the customer can clearly see you making complaints about them).

Over all...

Food was OK and the atmosphere/ staff pleasant.

However, the evening was tarnished by the fact we had to pay an additional £80 as a result of our 17 month old daughter accidentally knocking over and breaking what was described to us as being a "family heirloom", which was sat on windowsill no more than 2 feet off the ground.

I feel a little aggrieved by this given the manager knew we had children with us and sat us right next to the window and without providing any sort of warning over the sentimental value of said ornament.

In hindsight, I wouldn't have paid the additional £80 requested on top of the already quite expensive meal. The ornament shouldn't have been there in the first place if it held held such value, nor should we have been sat within 10 inches of it if the manager felt there was any sort of risk to it. If I'd have seen it, I'd have asked to move to one of the many other vacant tables myself. Or asked for the ornament to be moved.

Instead, the manager has opted to sit us there anyway, with us bearing all of the risk.

Neither myself nor many others who I tell about this will return/go to this restaurant...

We was so looking forward to the Ocean Palace being good but what a disappointment, this was a recommended place to eat and initial front of house is great, nice setting and decor, staff enthusiastic but somewhat lacking in experience but trying hard to please, its the food your'e there for and need to watch, Hot & Sour soup nothing like its description and tasted like oxo in a cup, Salt & Pepper ribs full of fat and tasteless, Special chow mein, had requested extra spicy and it was mainly veg and like a tin of minestrone soup had been used and watery, left most on plate we were a party of 5 and felt embarrassed as meals are small portions and at least two of my party were still hungry, rice served in small cold bowls why? and prawn crackers aren't complimentary, never experienced this before? expensive place, bad stomach next day. My search for a good Authentic Chinese...
