Well, I feel a bit mean and like the odd one out after seeing all the great reviews! I can only be honest though. Service was mediocre. Husbands meal was very good he said and mum said same about hers too. My meal of salmon wasn't great. Watery broccoli too and the tiny bit of cauliflower cheese wasn't good at all. The sauce was extremely thick and had set almost like a custard. The salmon itself - maybe it was fresh but I just felt like it was one of those frozen, defrosted portions. I could be wrong. Anyway, I give it a 7/10. Sat outside (we were told there were "no free tables inside and with it being a Sunday - we should have booked" by a barman!) and while it was nice outside, we were in baking hot sun and 84yo mum needed shade so we asked if we could have a parasol as all outside tables had holes for one. Table next to us which was being used had a parasol. Young lady who had been waiting on tables told us there weren't any spare - as we looked to bottom of garden eating area to see a table with a parasol (only two parasols to the whole outside area). She flounced off to get the spare one we were looking at but came back with a smile and put it up for us which we were relieved about as temp was 29ยฐC. Only 2 minutes later, we realised it was broken and only therefore offered us minimal coverage, so we roasted! We came to this pub a few years ago and loved it. We were even given home-made, complimentary chocolates on way out but this time, we won't be going back. Not because this experience was horrible or anything - it was okay - but we've had far better dining experiences elsewhere. Everybody seems to be very happy with it but it just wasn't right for us. I guess these pubs can't please all of the guests all...

I have been visiting the old oak for about 10 years, a number of times per year. Unfortunately my experience on this occasion was extremely poor. To start with, I ordered 3 fruitshoot drinks for my 3 young children, they appeared a strange colour on being brought to the table. They were out of date by 3 months. The waitress apologised as the whole batch was out of date, instead offering us some cordial. Unbelievably in one of the glasses was a small piece of degraded rubber which appeared to have fallen from the tap on making the drink. I only noticed as I was decanting the cordial into my childs cup aged 18 months. The food was not up to the usual high standard that I have enjoyed here previously, perhaps this being due to a large amount of customers and it was a Sunday. The pie was very poor. On receiving the bill, we were offered no discount on the cordial by way of an apology, in fact overcharged for ยฃ15 for desserts. The overcharge was rectified when it was highlighted. On paying the bill I noticed that the fruit shoots were still for sale. The staff member said she hadn't had time to remove them from the fridge, 1 hour 30 minutes after the problem was highlighted. Pretty basic hygiene as there were other children in the pub, why would you run the risk of an error. The old oak has always been consistently brilliant over the years however the quality has dropped and there were a...

Old Oak Tree: better than good pub grub! ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿ’ž๐Ÿคฉ We reserved a table for 6pm, for 6, but arrived just after 5pm. The staff were very accommodating and we managed to bring our booking forward and sit down for dinner straight away. The menu is fantastic, with lots to choose from, specials board lined with more starters and mains. We all enjoyed our food, the kids to to and they can be overly fussy sometimes! ๐Ÿคช I had pork belly noodles for starter and a steak for main, both were filling and unfortunately I filled myself up to the pint I couldn't fit in a desert! And the had a Bailey's crรจme brulรฉ on offer ๐Ÿ˜ญ perhaps next time...

The food and drinks were really good value, in fact the prices of the food vs portions were fantastic.

I would recommend booking a table just to ensure they can get you in, it did fill up by 18:30 as we were leaving.

Free WiFi through BT Guest.

Staff were friendly and service was nice and prompt.

Access โ™ฟ could be tricky from the car park, it may be worth dropping off anyone who struggles walking uphill at the cr park entrance at the top of the hill. Note toilets ๐Ÿšป, although accessible, have a small step to get over.

All in all a great experience. Thanks for having us! ๐Ÿ’žโค๏ธ We'll definitely be visiting again the next time we are nearby.

The Old Oak Tree was an ideal stopping off point between Shetland and the New Forest. Very handy for access from A1 or A19, and minutes from the centre of Thirsk. We were warmly welcomed (like old friends) and were delighted with our accommodation. We decided to dine in the pub, and were mightily impressed by the number of diners and the quality of the food. After a blissful nightโ€™s sleep breakfast was a delicious as dinner the evening before. We returned in the evening for our second night, when we were joined by two friends for dinner. There were a few hiccups over ordering welcome drinks for our guests but just minor inconveniences rather than a hassle. Another gorgeous meal and a sleep in slumberland affirmed that in the Old Oak Tree we had discovered a gem of a place to stay! It was a big plus that our dogs were welcomed too. Things Iโ€™d improve? If welcoming dogs, perhaps provide an area of the extensive garden were dogs could be safely exercised off lead without risk of them running up to the road.

We have had several meals at this lovely pub, both in the evening and at lunch time and the food is consistently excellent, the staff are friendly and the service is great. We usually book in advance if there is a party of us to avoid disappointment, the menu has something for everyone and there are always specials on the board (starters, mains and desserts), I have never had a bad meal here and it is one of my favourite places to eat. The pub also allows dogs in the bar area, on our last visit a couple popped in and were seated, with their dog, in the bar area, as a dog owner this is great for me for future reference as the surrounding areas of the pub are great for walking. I cannot recommend The Old Oak Tree highly enough, it's well worth a visit but I would recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ
