All pubs in the locality were fully booked and not accepting 'walk ins' We phoned to check availability and the gentleman that answered was so polite and accommodating. The car park is across the road and was full, so we had to park a short walk away, which was fine for us as we had our dog (Jack) with us, and he appreciated the little walk down the country lanes. It gave a food first impression as the exterior was clean, tidy and inviting. We walked into the bar area and enquired about a table, and the bar man confirmed that he had spoken to us on the phone and offered us a choice of the 2 available tables. The menu was typical to what you could expect for pub grub, with a good variety of food choice, and a specials board. The atmosphere in the bar was very positive with a few locals, who appeared friendly and there was live music playing which added a little to the overall atmosphere. I ordered the fish and chips, which was somewhat deceiving as when it arrived I thought the portion was small, however I was full when I finished. The star of this dish was the tartar sauce, the fish was nice, but the batter was soft, my preference is a crispy batter. The chips were fresh and tasty. My girlfriend ordered the chicken curry, which similarly was deceiving to look at for portion size, although it was enough for her manage without eating too much. The curry was tasty, chicken was tender and the spice level was just right. We did think it a little strange to only have half of a naan bread. The food was served promptly and was all hot. The beer, (we had Madri), was very refreshing, a very good pint. Overall we would recommend a visit if in this area, I wouldn't go out of my way to visit. Hospitality was fantastic.

They managed to fit our table of 8 in on short notice, food was brilliant even near end of service.Every meal we had on table was banging and presentation attractive. Service of, what we can only assume, was the manager (only been here 6 weeks) was amazing and you can clearly tell how much he loves his job, he was attentive and fun. This goes for all the staff including the chefs. It was pub quiz night which had great questions and an enthusiastic energy that kept us in the pub buying drinks and loving every second of it, we even got Helen on karaoke as a break half way through who was wonderful The whole place was dog friendly and they even shut all the gates later on so we could let them have a run around We didn’t use the hotel but we had a great night and will be working our next trip to the lakes around returning here What a banging staff team this little place has

Really warm, friendly, welcoming pub — very classic cosy traditional pub vibe round the main bar area, with an adjacent dining area and beer garden. I went twice — once for lunch and once for dinner — and both meals were top notch. The menu had a really great selection of options — our party of 6 tried all sorts of things across it and everything from the sandwiches to the sea bass risotto to the pizza to the pork ribs was excellent. The staff are also all lovely and friendly which makes such a difference. I will definitely be going back to Outgate Inn!

Disappointing visit which is a real shame. The only positive was the lovely Scottish lady who was there for the first 20/30 minutes of our visit. Then she either finished her shift or was on a break. But after that, the service was terrible by the other girl member of staff. Not to mention we had not been told of any table time limit. Next thing, the girl comes over and chucks a reserved sign on our table (that we had booked!!?) saying we had to leave that table as another booking was coming in. So I said nicely that we hadn’t been told that, and to be honest, the pub was empty!? (While internally thinking - Why this table which we had specifically booked!?) Her reply was “people normally eat and then leave” then she walked off. No offer of another table. No “sorry you wasn’t informed of the fact this table was booked after you”. So we paid the bill and walked to the Queens in Hawkshead which was absolutely brilliant! We had a great night celebrating our wedding anniversary with lovely and positive staff.

It’s a real shame to have a bad experience, but the treatment was really rude. Going out for food and drink is one thing, but really, the service you get can make or break a night for sure. Thankfully we turned our night around...

Really great pub and staff - shout out to the man who was in tonight, I am a visitor and really fancied a cup of tea so I wondered over to order a take away cup of tea - due to it being a busy Saturday and later in the evening, near their closing time the man didnt have any cups left but offered me a few teabags after sensing I really fancied a cuppa - thank you so much you really made my night and this kind of customer and human interactions are key to a better society , my uncle and his wife have ordered take out from here too as they have been here a week and a half longer than me and they said it’s been absolutely delicious and efficient - I think I might have to pop in for a sticky toffee pudding tomorrow - great staff and this business is what community spirit is all about - being the sole Pub in the area , this business is a credit to the local areas and anyone who may pop in , which I personally would absolutely recommend . They also have customer parking a great outside setting area - which is equip to better accommodate furry friends and children . Get yourself along here , be a supporter not a hater ; night has been made...
