We've been very fortunate eaten at a number of Michelin Star restaurants over the years. We've eaten here twice before and were excited to return, this time for my Wifes birthday.
We booked the 6 course Winter menu, with wine pairing, via OpenTable for lunch at 12.45
We arrived on time, they took our coats and pointed us in the direction of our table and we sat down.
It was 2017 we visited it last, in that time, the'd had a refurb - it looked grande!
When we sat down we were asked if would be interested in the wine pairing with dinner. Perfectly normal question, but when you book the experience online, you sort of expect them to already know why you're there?
An Onion Baji was brought out, along with some fantastic bread and marmite butter - all of which were outstanding.
This is where it all went a bit south for us to be honest - NOT the food, but the way front of house engaged with us, once food service had started.
It felt like there was a rush to put our food out, certainly the next two courses, came out in quick succession, the Assistant Manager, put our Langoustine down, explained roughly what it was then left us.
It was fantastic, when he returned to take away our plates, we said to him how wonderful it was and he responded with "I know" and walked off.
There were just the two us dining at the table, but you'd think it was only me, becuase they hardly engaged with my Wife until I had to say somthing to the Sommelier midway through the 2nd course
My Wife has amazing taste buds and a sense of smell, so I mentioned this to him, and to his credit, he did address this. Although, when he went to pour the red wine to pair with our Duck course, he'd forgotten a fresh glass with Wife.
This bit still irks me, the Steam Trout was put down to both of us in such a heavy handed way, we thought we'd upset him.
The best way I can describe it, would be like me going home two hours late from football, some what squiffy, knowing my Wife had been preparing a special meal for us both and I'd broken my promis of being home on time
I stress again, the Sommelier was really engaging after, very knowledgable and clearly passionate about his wine, as was the Restaurant Manager, she was great (Only found out their roles, looking at the website, after we've been)
To summarise, the food and wine were brilliant - some major tweeks needed at front of house to be on par with our...
Read moreVery mixed feeling after eating at the Paris House. We opted for the ten course taster menu. Yes the food was outstanding, but that was always to be expected given the quality of the chef, surroundings and cost, however it lacked any kind of atmosphere and as we were a party of five ladies celebrating a 50th birthday we were obviously chatting and laughing with each other, this was greeted with being told to be quiet! I dont know about anyone reading this review but I personally love to hear the sound of people enjoying themselves and chatting to their friends, it sends a good feeling to the other guests that this is a welcoming place to be and they are enjoying their night. We also asked when booking, if we could put a balloon on the table which we were told yes and one of our party drove there earlier in the day so it was there when we arrived, when we got there the balloon had been placed in a corner, we asked why and was told the string was too long? One of our party overheard one of the staff saying they couldn’t hear themself talk, was this because we didn’t stop chatting immediately the first plate arrived and rather waited for all plates to be placed before we stopped and listen to the description? Regardless, it was unnecessary and made us all feel very uncomfortable, and to be honest I wanted to leave. Yes we were laughing and chatting but only amongst ourselves in between the courses, surely that is why you meet up. The restaurant and ( very young) staff obviously take their positions very seriously, which I highly commend, but not to the exclusion of our enjoyment. I was really looking forward to this experience but came away disappointed and underwhelmed. If you like eating in silence you will love it but if you want to converse with a group of friends whilst dining I suggest you spend your...
Read moreLet me start with saying, this was outstanding. In every possible way, this was brilliant!
We went to the Paris House at the end of November having not long previous visited a very well known TV chef's M* restaurant and been distinctly unimpressed. So it was with something of a jaded attitude that we went to the Paris House but after an unbelievable evening, our faith in great restaurants is restored!
The tasting menu changes throughout the year and we were lucky enough to have the "Festive" selection. Every course was a masterpiece both visually and from a flavour point of view. You simply couldn't fault a single thing. Who knew that the humble celeriac could be elevated to such heights?! And a desert simply called "Grapefruit" turned out to be a sublime dish that had me tempted to lick the plate!
The staff are exemplary and a credit to the establishment. they were attentive without being overbearing (other restaurants take note, there's only so much "is everything OK with your meal" that a diner can take!). They were also knowledgeable. Every. Single. One. Of. them. They have clearly all tried the dishes, understood what the chef is trying to do with the course, and can talk with confidence. And they're all such damn nice people as well!
The setting is outstanding, the house beautiful the.... oh damn it! Look! This is an outstanding establishment, excellent value for money and one that we will be going back to time and time again! I...
