After a 40 minute wait for breakfast we was served totally unexceptable plates of under cooked bacon,,sausage mushroom and ash browns that tasted and smelt like dirty fat,, spoonful of cold beans,,had to ask for clean cups,,plates for the toast,,more hot water,,milk,,as was the other diners,,total shambles,,felt sorry for the staff as there was only 2 running the complete show,,just opened to the public with no extra help,,the cook should be ashamed even sending out what they did overwhelmed or not,,would rather have been turned away,,got an apology and didn't have to pay which I wouldn't have anyhow,,the poor lass even said herself it was disgusting and she wouldn't eat it,,we wasn't the only ones complaining,,we've eaten here before when we've stayed at the hotel and it was nice,,get more staff in there or shut it to walkins from the public,,I really couldn't believe what we was served,,needs sorting out ASAP,, not fair on the diners or staff

We were surprised all times were available book for Mothers Day 30th March for Sunday Lunch, we booked for 4:30pm. On arrival the usual greeting and being allocated a table was no longer a part of the visit. On ordering were then told there were no Sunday lunches left so ordered off the Main Menu. I ordered Pie and veg at £15.99 and think the picture speaks volumes. What seemed like frozen veg and frozen mash. The Pie wasn’t too bad but for £15.99 expected something a little better. On leaving we noticed a table being served Sunday Lunch, where the Manageress joined them. Clearly they had saved some back for special guests which was a little frustrating. I cannot understand how a normally very busy Marstons Inn would run out of all meat on a Mothering Sunday when it had apparently been very quiet. We used to recommend here to our holiday Cottage guests but not now. Most likely our last visit!

Just got back home from having Sunday Carvery at Penny Hedge in Whitby ! We had 2 pints of Brooklyn Beer on offer at £5.50 it was a lovely smooth craft beer really enjoyed it ! The waitresses were very friendly Suzanne went out of her way to make us welcome plus a younger waitress I didn’t catch her name who was friendly & eager to please ! We are new to the area I ordered a Vegetarian Carvery & had 3 different choices I choose a Lentil bake with my Yorkshire pudding parsnips carrots both roasted in maple syrup they were a delight…plus sprouts roast potatoes & peas with veggie gravy what can I say my plate was empty I ate every morsel Well Penny Hedge you have become my favour place to eat in Whitby I’ll be back !

We arrived as a party of 30 pre wedding meet up we had driven 5 hours and my brother had booked tables for us to have a meal ,on arrival 7pm we were asked to order our food as it would take sometime to cook, what followed was a catalogue of disasters which would have been more in keeping to a faulty towers episode, we had ordered sharers for 6 which was chicken and kofte etc,it was brought to the table by a young waitress carrying two cutting boards laden with five bowls of food on each which was clearly very heavy,as she approached our table and stopped a bowl of piping hot kofte in sauce slid of the slipppery wooden board and covered my daughter in scalding hot sauce and meatballs all over her new clothes and has she cried out with the burning on her legs she jumped and hit on the nose with the heavy wooden board which caused more pain and distress also onto her husbands jacket, the waitress said I will bring you another dish and went away to get a dustpan and brush to clean up,my daughter had only a few serviettes to clean her clothes and no help was offered . Next came our mains of which included a Mac and cheese which had been delivered to another table and was retrieved from another customer not in our party who was about to tuck in to it, after we inquired it was brought to our table and followed by two steaks ribeye and sirloin which had been ordered medium pink but came rare and was emitting blood into the chips making them look awful.( I have pictures) . I have had some bad experiences in the past but this visit to your pub takes the trophy without a by your...

The usual Marston’s layout and decor was obvious from our initial entrance, this was a very hot July day and the pub was uncomfortably warm inside. Obviously, Britain lacks Air-conditioning in many old buildings and pubs, but in a contemporary structure such as this, it would not be amiss and would have been most welcoming, especially as the rooms they offer do apparently have AC! The beer was fine; the staff we spoke to were lovely and one of them even chatted with us as he ate his rushed even meal on an adjoining table. We had booked to spend the night in their car park in our camper van. and that was no problem and a relatively quiet, but warm night was had. My main issue was the food. We often eat in Marston's pubs and generally get some good grub, however, although my wife enjoyed her Hunters Chicken, my Sea Bass, left much to be desired. The two wafer thin pieces of Sea bass, were chewy, far too thin, small and overcooked. The cubed roasted potatoes were incredibly hard to chew, simply because they were so well roasted. They made my mouth sore with their sharp edges and rough texture. The accompanying White wine sauce comprised of a splash of sauce in the bottom of the bowl and would have been missed if I didn’t look for it. Only the veg and the five prawns were easy and tasty to eat. A nice dish that could have so much better with a side float of sauce, better portions, of sea Bass for the £20 charge, and edible potatoes. We will continue to be patrons of Marston’s pubs, but I’m not sure we would return to this one for...

We were welcomed and given keys. The room was clean and good for my wife’s disability. It was rather cold & took a long time to warm up. The lights went out when I used bus pass in the eco switch so I could go out. The manager had to make another key so that could be left in while I went out. She was pleasant & helpful. The door springs are really heavy making access difficult. Another triumph for H&S! When we went for dinner we were greeted by a young lad. We could not go to our table because he could not login. He did get help & took us to our table but did not explain anything. We sat & waited and nothing happened. Eventually we saw the bar code & started to order food. Then the waitress came to offer drinks .We completed the food order but discovered it had to be paid for before we could have it. There was no option to use the food vouchers you had sold us to “Enhance” our stay. We were told the vouchers could not be refunded because our booking was with a 3rd party & we did not order at the bar. When I explained we had just ordered our food & paid on line. We would have to save the vouchers til our next visit. After I said I would block the credit card. The nice manageress came & explained. Some how she managed to charge our wine to the voucher & gave us some San Pelligrino to make up the difference. By then my wife not really fancy the dinner & did not eat much. Sad we have always gone out for our Wedding anniversaries and this was our 54th!. She would rather stay at...
