We haven't been here for years so was really looking forward to coming back tonight, after reading so many good reviews we booked a table to celebrate a birthday.. When we arrived the pub was busy so it took 10minutes or so to be acknowledged.. we got seated and ordered our food and drinks but that's when it went downhill.. we waited over 1.5hrs for food to come (which never did) I asked one of the girls how long food would be please and she said starters were coming now - but we hadn't had starters, and after that she didnt come back to our table. More than happy to wait for fresh food but this felt like an extremely long time, especially when no staff came over to explain that there would be any delay - a further 10mins later a young lad came over and asked if we'd like more drinks, we asked how long food would be and after going to check and waiting a further 10minutes we were told it'd be another 10-15minutes, he was lovely and the most helpful/polite out of all the staff who served us but unfortunately we couldn't wait any longer so we had to leave, we'd been here a very long time by now. Couldn't rate the food as we didn't actually manage to get any and to be honest the service could have been improved, we just felt like a total inconvenience to be honest. I appreciate big tables had been in previously but we booked a table and we weren't told any of this then or when ordering. A real shame as we were looking...

We ate here on the 21/4/25. It was the worst meal I’ve ever had.

I ordered a gluten free chicken burger and my husband and daughter ordered steaks.

It took 40 minutes to receive our meals apparently due to my gluten free chips taking longer than normal chips. The place was not busy. When our food arrived I had a dry chicken breast sandwiched between 2 slices of gluten free bread with a basket of rubbery chips and a wee dish of relish. Not a bit of salad in sight.

It was awful. Dry and tasteless. I told the waitress when she came over then again when I went to the bar as we were leaving.

She said there wasn’t anything she could do as there was no manager.

So I had no choice but to pay £18 for an inedible burger.

I messaged the inn on the night of the visit via their website but they haven't had the decency to respond to me. My husband and daughter were not well after their food for a few days. My husband started throwing up 40 min after eating.

I would not recommend this place. It’s a shame as it’s...

Was not impressed to be honest, table had been booked and although it was only for two, we were put at a tiny table (felt as if it was just put into a space for the sake of it!) It being in a small village they have regulars but it was so obvious as we didn't feel we were made welcome at all! The menu was okay but non of the starters appealed to me, my husband had prawns in chilli and garlic we were offered complimentary bread (which was lovely!) 1/2 a slice each?? Mains once more were okay I had pork which I must admit was nice especially the pork belly the blackpudding fritters were also lovely but my husband's lamb was burnt to death, thing is I noticed everyone that had ordered the lamb had it served the same!! The mint sauce overpowered the flavour of the actual meat! We didn't have dessert or coffee as to be honest we just wanted to leave! Needless to say we won't be back! Very disappointed to say the least! The staff weren't all that attentive either as they were too busy socialising with...

The Plough Inn is a very welcoming Pub/B&B in the charming small village of Wreay. We stayed in a very tastefully decorated and furnished room with a kingsize bed which had just been refurbished (we were the first ones to stay and other rooms are currently being upgraded) As expected everything was very clean and new in the room. The ensuite has a very large shower and some toiletries were supplied. Full English Breakfast was amazing, all local produce used and very generous portions that set us up for the day. Sunday roasts were great, in fact all of the menu seems to live up to expectations, again no small portions. All in all we had a great stay, all of the staff are friendly. Sam is working very hard to get things right and Ben is doing great stuff in the kitchen. There are a few things that are needed to complete the rooms and we were told that these will be sorted. None of which spoilt our stay and we are looking forward to returning here again. 😁😁

Great location in the lovely village of High Wreay just outside of Carlisle is The Plough Inn, a very lovely country pub. Plenty of FREE parking round the back and lovely surrounding landscape views of the majestic countryside. In the bar theres popular lagars and beers, plenty of wines and spirits too. More than enough seating inside in the dining areas and the alcoves around the room. Outside your spoilt for choice too, theres tables at the front and bar tables and dining pods at the back, where you can enjoy the long summer nights either under cover or out in the sun, theres also a playground to keep the kids happy. I was only there for lunch, the whole menu looked amazing, I chose the Lemon Chicken on brioche and was so tasty. Another couple had the ploughmans sharing platter which looked stunning!! The staff are excellent, very friendly and chatty. Theres also rooms to rent, which I will hopefully try out on my next visit to the area.
