As a pub, I’d say the Port William Inn is one of the best pubs in the UK. The views are simply breathtaking, it is worth sitting outside even in wind of rain the take in the views. The selection of beers are mostly St Austell Cornish beers which are all delicious- it’s hard to pick which to choose. It is reasonably priced for a location like this at around £5 a pint. I didn’t eat lunch or dinner there so cannot comment on the food but everything looked and smelt delicious. The staff were nice and the pub is clean and warm with plenty of seating. It is dog friendly and there is a little station with water bowls and treats for your furry friend. We stayed here for 4 nights, 2 adults and 2 dogs, and the room was not big enough unfortunately. We were packed like sardines so spent very little time in the room due to this as it was extremely claustrophobic. The TV didn’t work either , only 4 channels worked and it was screwed to the wall so couldn’t plug a HDMI to use our own tv stick to watch Netflix etc. I understand that you don’t go away to watch tv, but when you’re outside all day walking/hiking/swimming/surfing, it would be nice to be able to relax in the room that you paid £200 a night for, which wasn’t possible due to being so cramped. That being said, the view was unbelievable, straight out on to the sea, and there’s a little fridge in the room that was replenished with fresh water and biscuits daily. When we arrived there was also a bowl, towel, a tennis ball and some ‘dog beer’ for the dogs and a bottle of beer for us which is a nice touch. And we were still about to relax in the pub in the evening. The staff were friendly when serving drinks but a bit chaotic and rushed when checking into the hotel as the bar is also the check in desk. There is a car park at the top for guests but this was full , so getting there was very stressful - cars are constantly coming up so we reversed back and began to unpack when another diner came out and shouted and screamed at us to move as we were interrupting her view - she wouldn’t stop shouting so eventually had to park at the bottom of the hill and carry all our stuff up which took several trips as we had a lot of gear, bags, and the dogs and their cage and beds to carry up, which wasn’t much fun after a 7 hour drive. The price of the room does include breakfast which is either a continental buffet with cereal, toast and fruit or a hot breakfast which is either a full English or a breakfast sandwich which has lovely and made with local fresh ingredients. Also a selection of juice/hot drinks to order. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay at the port William but will most likely stay in one of the full homes/apartments in trebarwith for future visits as they are a similar price so value for money wasn’t the best, but honestly with that view and having the best views over the sea in trebarwith, I guess they can charge what they want as the views are unmatched. In the area there is plenty to do. The beach in on the doorstep with a surf shop/cafe just below. You can walk straight from the hotel along the cliffs into Tintagel (about 1.5 miles) and continue along to Boscastle to extend this walk. Bear in mind this walk is stunning but steep and muddy in places. It’s a great base to explore Cornwall with Padstow and the camel trail being a half hour drive.

Our recent stay at The Port William in Tintagel was absolutely excellent, and I couldn't be happier to share my experience! From the moment We arrived, the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making me feel right at home. A special shout-out to Jake, Sky, and Ben who were all fantastic, and the lovely lady at breakfast, I believe her name was Tammy or Sammy, who truly made our mornings exceptional. We stayed in Room 4, which was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The attention to detail throughout the inn was evident, contributing to a truly pleasant environment. If I had one small suggestion, it would be to supply a small amount of fresh milk in the room fridge instead of the pouches – it would be a perfect touch! The restaurant at The Port William served truly great food, and the atmosphere was wonderfully cosy – perfect for enjoying a delicious meal. We were also treated to fantastic live music on Wednesday evening with Will Keating, who was absolutely amazing and added so much to the experience! What truly stood out was how very, very dog-friendly the establishment is, which made my trip with my furry companion so much easier and more enjoyable. And the breakfast? It was nothing short of exceptional, featuring the best scrambled eggs I have ever tasted! The surrounding area of Tintagel is simply stunning, offering a wealth of attractions to explore. I highly recommend visiting the legendary Tintagel Castle, exploring the mystical Merlin's Cave, and taking in the breathtaking coastal views along the South West Coast Path. The picturesque village itself is charming and well worth a wander. I am already looking forward to planning my next visit and returning to this fantastic inn. Thank you, Port William, for an unforgettable and truly exceptional experience!

We ate in a number of establishments around the area during our week’s holiday in Cornwall, this was the last evening meal of the week. The Port William has a nice location overlooking Trebarwith Strand, we’d booked a week or so in advance to ensure we’d get a table. First issue was we’d ordered Salt and Pepper Squid, and a Garlic Bread to start with, the Squid arrived okay but no sign of the Garlic Bread. Having waited a while we quizzed a waiter who said it had been put down as a side dish for the main course. He brought it out about 5 minutes later. We’d ordered Chicken Tikka Massala, a Burger with Cheese and Bacon, and a daily special of Lemon Sole for mains. The Burger arrived with no Cheese and the Chicken Tikka tasted exactly like a reheated packet meal from a supermarket. The Lemon Sole was coated in dry breadcrumbs to the extent that it was inedibly dry, it appeared to be baked rather than fried. The breadcrumbs were pale and insipid, I scraped the fish out as best I could and left the rest. The bill was discounted by the cost of the Chicken Tikka and Lemon Sole, but that’s not the point. This was our last night in Cornwall and irrespective of the day of the week, I expect a hugely better standard of food from a supposedly reputable pub chain. Just to round it off we then had to wait about 10 minutes to be able to pay the discounted bill as the staff couldn’t seem to make the full machines work. Thoroughly unenjoyable and an EXTREMELY disappointing end to a lovely week in Cornwall.

We booked a sea view room through booking.com - why else would we go except to have the glorious sea view? You guessed it: when we arrived there was no sea view. The staff shifted blame to booking.com who "allocated" the room, after which they said they would be prepared to move us to a sea view room but: "sorry, we're full". When we transferred to the bar area to access the sea view, after half an hour, she did try to make amends by offering a bottle of complementary Prosecco. Unfortunately this does not replace a sea view.||There was a bottle of complementary Prosecco in the room with a card: "Enjoy your stay from the Port Willy Team". I had not mentioned our anniversary in my booking, so believed it was what they did - provided a complimentary bottle of bubbly on arrival. You guessed it: our son phoned the next day to ask if we had received the Prosecco he had asked to be placed in our room because we had not acknowledged it and he was afraid the hotel had not produced it. My wife quietly went into enquire at the bar and spoke to an attendant, only to be interrupted by a staff member named "A...". She presented herself as the manager and said my son had not given a name, then that they had not caught the name, and additional excuses, but never with an acknowledgement, let alone apology, for our disappointment. She was then rude: to my wife's embarrassment she loudly told my wife that she was busy and that she should wait at the back of the que because she had lots of customers to serve. Were we not customers? The fact is my wife never addressed her in the first place. What is more astounding is that when we met our son (a very accomplished travel and very good communicator) gave insight into his call. He asked for champagne to be sent to the room and was told they had champagne from Cornwall or Prosecco. When he queried "Champagne" and that Champagne was only produced in that region of France, the person (who we think may have been "A...") persisted. In the end he ordered the Prosecco.|While the hotel was in a prime location, the error in the booking and the service of this individual, quite frankly impinged on the sheer enjoyment we should have experienced.|A minor incident was when we were still busy with our mains the waiter brought our desert and was quite confused as to what to do. It was Cornish ice cream so we did not want it to linger on the table and melt, so sent it back. We had observed this individual repeatedly take food orders to the wrong table. While he was clearly trying, he was in dire need of training.|We were in the hotel industry for 25 years with several accommodation establishments and we called this "success syndrome". The business grows and get busy, the customers keep rolling in, and when you are rude to some, it does not really matter because they keep rolling in .... and then ..."|This hotel clearly need staff training and staff need coaching on how to deal with guest disappointments - which we acknowledge do happen, but need to be dealt with correctly.|Otherwise, it should have been an excellent stay as the location is superb and, if the room we stayed in was the standard across all rooms, the room we stayed in was clean and comfortable. We also need to give credit to manager Ben, who came on duty after all these events and did try to make some amends. Unfortunately, first impressions are lasting impressions. Changing a bad first impression takes huge effort to remedy, because customer trust is broken. It would be better for "Port Willy" to get some staff...

Went for a family meal tonight, first time at this location and pub.

The views were great and worth the trip.

However, the food and the staff were not worth the visit and based on this certainly won’t be back.

The staff wasn’t tentative at all to their tables and when you clearly wanted to make eye contact they looked the other way.

They got our starters wrong, I tried to get the attention of member of staff to make them aware, the girl looking after our table was looking after another table at the time and the other waitress clearly ignored me because it wasn’t a table she was looking after.. just rude and bone idle.

I made a complaint to another staff member to say we hadn’t got our starters.. after trying to get someone’s attention for a good 5 mins he said he would sort it.

5 mins later the girl looking after our table came across to say we didn’t order the starter which wasn’t the case at all.. her attitude wasn’t great at all and she said she didn’t see us trying to get her attention which I did say I agree with as I could see her looking after another table at the time. I explained it was the other waitress who was to blame as she clearly saw us wanting attention but wasn’t interested as it wasn’t her table.

The waitress talking to us just said “right ok” being rude and I stopped her and said it wasn’t ok.

We told her to forget the starters at this point as clearly it was our fault she couldn’t take a simple order and blamed my wife.

5 mins later I could see the two waitresses having a full blown discussion about the conversation i had just had both looking over and rolling their eyes.

Absolutely disgusting level of service..

To top it off the food came and it was bloody awful to boot.

We spent ÂŁ150 on bread as a starter and 4 main courses and a kids meal and we had two waitresses rolling their eyes at us in the process.

I hope the management read this post as this is a clear reflection of them with their poor customer service and awful food for what they are charging a hell of a lot for.

I just paid the the bill and left.. if I had complained I would have spoiled my manners with the two spoiled brats serving us and how they carried on. It was better for them and us I paid and left.

If I can be any help to others reading this.. go for a pint, enjoy the views.. give the food and staff a wide birth and grab some fish and chips on the way to or back from this place.

Food and more so the staff a...
