We spent 3 nights here last week. We wanted somewhere near Whitby and as my Mum’s maiden name was Postgate (no relation!) we decided to come to the small village of Egton Bridge. We were not disappointed. It’s a very traditional inn, with stone flagged floors, several real ales but also a good selection of wine and gins. The welcome was warm and we instantly felt at home. The barman, Andy and the Landlord/Chef, Mark are both masters in their respective roles – very efficient but very warm and welcoming. ||The rooms are of a good size and spotlessly clean. Ours (Room one) also had bunk beds, but didn’t seem cramped at all. A small thermos of fresh milk was a very welcome touch – so much nicer than the little pots. They also provide a small jar of mints on the bedside table, which is nice after a meal. ||Which brings me onto the food, which is truly magnificent. They specialise in fish, which is all from the North Sea and beautifully cooked, with the welcome offer to make any amendments that we want to the meals. The portions are very generous, so much so that I never managed a pudding – although my husband and brother seemed to enjoy theirs! Everything is cooked to order, which can lead to a bit of a wait if it’s very busy, but it’s never too long and is definitely worth it.||However, the highlight of every day was the breakfast. Fantastic, fresh local produce, generous portions and perfectly cooked. The perfect start to a day’s sightseeing! ||The location is very handy – just 15 minutes drive into Whitby and right next to the train station (although sadly the trains aren’t very frequent so didn’t fit in with our plans). It’s also very close to Goathland and the North York Moors and right on the Coast to Coast if you wanted to treat yourself before the end!||All in all, we had a fantastic stay and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to spend some time up in the beautiful Yorkshire...

Read moreVery disappointed in the service and the pub, I took my elderly parents out for lunch and thought we would try out the Postgate Inn. As soon as we walked in I sat my parents down at half empty front room with no reservations on tables to hear some local voicing that we must have stolen his spot. A great welcoming to start, I then order the drinks and take a menu for us to decide what meals we wish to order. After going to the bar the Landlady asked me to sit back at the table and that someone will come and take our order. 40 minutes and two drinks later our order was taken and then sat another 40 minutes while we watched other groups served who had come in much later than our selves. After waiting an hour and a half we decided to leave as we had got past the point of wanting to eat. Very poor service and know not to go back...
