A very accessible public house for west Dorset, including Weymouth, Lulworth Cove and the Jurassic Coast, not to mention The Tank Museum, and Lawrence Of Arabia's cottage. Olde Worlde building with extensive camping ground, well stocked bar, but absolutely wonderful smoke house! We had pork belly, pulled pork, pork bites and crackling (with chips!) as one meal, and thought it the absolute bees knees. So much so that as we were staying on the campsite we went back the next night for the same! The chef is clearly talented. No reduction in overall stars but a small salad might perhaps have complimented the dish, instead of having as an either/or. Campsite was flat, but can be a little cramped as they go by the premise of only 3m between tents, whereas in the UK, the recommended distance between tents for fire safety isĀ at least 6 meters.Ā This spacing helps prevent the rapid spread of fire from one tent to another. Our campervan was only 2m from the next spaced tent. Rustic showers and toilets, but clean and serviceable, and with key code to stop undesirables using them. Alan (owner/manager/caretaker) was delightful and engaging and clearly wanted us to enjoy our stay. The price was good for two nights too. Overall, we had a brilliant time and hope to go back next year. One word of warning however: when TankFest at Bovington Tank Museum is on the campsite becomes extremely busy, as does the pub. Staff were worked hard but remained attentive. We'll be back!

Myself, husband and 7 year old stayed for 3 nights at The Red Lion Hotel so we could be near the Tank Museum and other activities and attractions in the area. All the staff were friendly and welcoming and always answered any questions and nothing was a big ask (more pillows/toilet paper) and the food was delicious and cooked fresh. There aren’t many rooms there and we stayed in one with a bunk bed. It’s wasn’t massive but it did the job and it was clean and homely. The bathrooms/water works/pipes need a super update but the shower and toilet worked and there was hot water, so it did its job. There was very little water pressure and you could hear everyone who pulled the flush in the building. But again - it all worked and was clean. The food was a little expensive for what you got but again it was very good and freshly cooked. The complimentary breakfast was complimentary up to a point - if you wanted the breakfast muffins or the full cooked then it was extra on top. Tank museum is a 10 minute drive away and it’s secluded so quiet. The rooms are above the pub but it wasn’t busy or noisy. Staff have local knowledge and a good selection of beers/ciders on offer.

Under the New Management from April 2022. We stayed here over the Easter 🐣 Break. We booked a Family Room, 1 double & 1 bunk bed. There’s a TV with all the basic channels, shower, tea/coffee/kettle, wardrobe. It’s small but practical, does the job as our main reason was to spent time sightseeing, the Durdle Door beach is only 9 minutes away by car. The room is above the pub, we stayed Saturday overnight & it wasn’t too noisy. We had lunch, it was tasty, there’s an outdoor area, my son was able to kick the ball around whilst we waited for food. They have kids menu too. We checked in at 3pm, you get a key from the side entry. We also booked breakfast- had continental breakfast, croissants, juice, fruits, yogurts, toast, tea…it was all fresh & all ready for us. The checkout was by 10am. There’s a car park just next to it. The people in charge are very nice, easy to talk to & helpful. Wish them a lot of success with their journey! If I was to improve something, it would be the quality of Wi-Fi. I wasn’t too bothered as I have 4G when I needed it, but would be nice to have a stronger Wi-Fi.

I orderd the pork board on 7th aug 2025,Thursday which they had run out of. Not really an issue, though disappointing. I then orderd the ribs in a bbq sauce. Thay came after more than 40 minutes post order and were very dry ,cold and without sauce. I returned them and was advised that they are meant be dry. The description on the menu distinctly said sauce, not dry. The menu did not mention they would be cold. I was advised that they could not supply me me more ribs as they too had now sold out. For my 3rd choice I selected a chicken ceaser salad. To my mind this is a chicken breast, bacon, parmesan cheese, ceaser dressing, salad and possibly anchovies. I recieved a chicken breast which was very dry and tough, on a bed of mixed salad and a dressing. I asked if they had any parmesan cheese. I was advised that they do not have a any...... Now I regularly make a ceaser salad at home. It always comes with all the previously stated Ingredients and is warm and moist. It is not a difficult dish to prepare and at £17 which this pub was going to charge me, not at all reasonable. Unfortunately I did not eat this 3rd choice of dinner. I am not particularly fussy however i do appreciated valur for money and good service. The young waitress was nonplussed and dismissive despite me acknowledging that ion on this was her fault. i was offerd no explanation or apology and left having no dinner. My 3 friends also received meals that were like warm at best....

Liked: Very friendly staff. Arrival was straight for wed, checkin inside the pub or call the number of pub is closed!

Breakfast available 8-9.45 sets you up for the day!

Easy little walk in to the adjacent public park where we could play cricket, football and use the public playground with the little ones when the site was busy during the weekend so we didn’t disturb other people and large group of adults in vans.

Very reasonable price compared to other sites at this time of year, toilets, showers and one washing up sink available. Very easy driving access to lulworth and durdle door just 8minutes down the road and easy access to Weymouth too. Dobbie’s two minute drive and chip shop in Wool if required.

Large menu and food was decent. Summer holidays kids meals are all £1 (instead of £9.95 and bought with an adult meal)

Disliked: Toilet was very very smelly when we arrived, not sure what was wrong and then second day one toilet and shower out of order.

While we understand the code for toilet and showers is likely necessary with the public footpath running through, but it’s slightly inconvenient that all the codes are different for each shower and each toilet…. Especially in the middle of the night and the solar lights weren’t working either!

Other than this we enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back because the pubs handy, and the location is ideal...
