DISGRACEFUL RIP OFF.
We popped in for a quick lunch time drink whilst on holiday, a couple of weeks ago, and had a great welcome from a very friendly & helpful bar maid.
We decided to book for dinner that evening on the strength of our welcome. Iām afraid thatās where our compliments end. We arrived just before 7. All ok. Nothing amazing but ok. We purchased food knowing that we were benefitting from the āDine out to help outā scheme offered. We felt the menu was a bit pricey for an āaverage village boozerā. I ordered the Prawn Jalfrezi @ Ā£16 & my partner, chilli con carne, also Ā£16. (Both advertised on their website at Ā£13 each). We knew we would be handing over half of this cost and The Red Lion would claim the rest from the Government. When our food arrived it looked reasonably appetising however the portions would not have filled a small child. We ate and our meal was complete by 7.20. This was meant to be an evening out whilst on holiday.
The chef arrived to clear our plates and commented that we obviously enjoyed our meals. When I replied with, it was a shame there wasnāt more of it, he rudely replied with, you are only paying Ā£8 for that, what do you expect? I was horrified to receive such a rude and curt reply. As we were on holiday, I could not be bothered to argue with the ignorant and rude man.
Not only was the meal a total rip off, this pub is cheating the Government, (who have now been informed). It was a shame as we would have spent more time during our week on holiday within this pub, but took our custom to a couple of other lovely establishments.
I leave you to make your own opinion on these facts, but in short - take your money elsewhere, where your custom will be appreciated and you will receive true value for money with great food and service, not a disgraceful show of a business just trying to rip you and the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy husband and I ate here three times during our holiday due to reviews and being recommended by the caravan park staff. Sausage and mash was lovely. Sunday roast very salty (I like salt but this was salty.) Garvey was watery and veg hard. Yourkshire pudding burnt on the corners and well done on the rest. I had the pork, it was soft more like pulled pork than a joint and again the salt overpowered the flavour. Hubbie had the beef, he was impressed with the meat but again lots of salt and veg very hard (raw) Fish and chips: chips were nice, crispy on the outside fluffy in the middle. Fish ok, bland and batter runny on the underside. I didnāt eat mine. Cheese cake was vile!! Staff friendly and welcoming if we had have had transport we probably would have...

Landlord Duncan went out of his way a couple of times to sort me out with food. Once after I arrived at the nearby caravan site and outside normal food hours he got a sandwich fixed up for me. On the Sunday night he helped me get and takeaway in via a friend who was collecting one for him.
The general vibe here is very relaxed with a sensible vaping policy.
Iāve very much enjoyed this being my local for the duration of my long weekend in the village . I look forward to visiting this lovely pub again on...
