The phrase "hidden gem" is typically overused hyperbole these days, but Restaurant 1840 really does meet the criteria. Tucked away on Stirchley Lane is a beautifully repurposed church, offering a rather unique restaurant setting. Outside, there is a car park for 13 to 14 cars, a comfortable outdoor sofa area to the front and a decking are to the rear. After being warmly greeted in the reception/bar area (an 'add-on' which does not form part of the original church building), you pass into the main dining room which would have previously housed the church pews. There are certain bits of church paraphernalia remaining (an organ, bits of pew), but nothing overbearing or gimmicky. We were seated downstairs, but there is an upstairs area that looks over the main dining area. A viewing window offers an interesting open view into the kitchen. The room is cosy but at no point did we feel intruded upon by, or too close to, other patrons. We were tended to very promptly and warmly by our dedicated server. Our order consisted of a glass of Malbec each, BBQ Pork Bites & King Scallops to start, and Duck & Fillet Steak mains. Complimentary bread with a red pepper butter, which was bursting with flavour, was provided pre-starter, which was a lovely touch and really built a sense of excitement for the courses proper. Staying true to the teaser we'd just been provided, the courses themselves were deliciously cooked and teeming with flavour. After tasting each other's food, my fiancée and I immediately began drawing dividing lines as to what was available for pilfering from the other's plate. The only issue of the evening was that my fiancée's steak arrived medium to well, rather than the ordered (and recommended) medium rare. However, this was swiftly and discreetly rectified by the personable and professional manager. An entirely new meal was provided (not just the steak). A total bill of £90 was definitely worth the tastes on offer and the air of exclusivity that comes with the more intimate venue. We will definitely be returning to sample more of the menu and would encourage anyone looking for a serious restaurant experience in Telford to try Restaurant 1840.

We were blown away by our first ever visit to Restaurant 1840 in Dawley, Telford, a former Methodist chapel where the tables were created from original chapel pews. We had three courses and every course was delicious. The restaurant was impeccably clean, with the cutlery being noted for its cleanliness. The waiters, all youngsters, were impressively polite and we didn't get called "guys" (apparently the staff are not allowed to use that term). The wait between courses was just right and the ambience good, with gentle music at just the right volume. If there is any constructive feedback then it can only be that the plates could have been hotter, other than hot plates is a pet hate of mine, but the temperature of the food itself was fine. My late dad, at one stage during his life used to be a Methodist preacher so to be in a former Methodist chapel was good. We were suitably impressed to book a future visit and look forward to that occasion.

This has for a long time been on my list of places to try, so I decided to book a table. I did this online and received a confirmation email. It's located in Dawley and away from the town, you have fields and trees nearby. Pleanty of free parking. I was greeted warmly on entering and took a table upstairs, it is a beautiful old building with lots of character. Tables are nicely spaced, so you have privacy, and it's not too noisy. The background music is tastful and just at the right level. On the far wall, a projector screens an old movie that adds to the atmosphere. Staff and that applies to all, including the trainee, were excellent. They have a good menu. I opted for a main and dessert. The food was excellent, and I would class it as fine dining. It was not cheap but not that expensive as you got an excellent, well presented meal. Customer several was excellent. They cater for gluten-free and have good options

My wife and I went to Restaurant 1840 , at Stirchley , for the first time on the night of Tuesday 12 September 2023 to have a birthday celebration meal. It is in an old , rennovated Chapel building , built in 1840 , hence the name. We were very impressed by the quality of the food and the caring service from Alison , Molly and Grace . We can highly recommend the Restaurant 1840 and although they are regularly booked out later in the week they are now opening on Tuesday and Wednesdays with spaces still available .

The Restaurant 1840 has a well laid out small tarmacadam , flat, car park to the left of the building on a slight slope. It has a glass entrance porch with a large main dining area and kitchen on the ground floor with a smaller balcony area above the kitchen . We had a table upstairs and were amazed by the number of times that the staff climbed the stairs to come and service our needs , always smiling. The toilets are at the far side of the kitchen - through a very low stone arch ( duck ! ) with a unisex and disabled toilet available.

My wife had a lovely fillet steak whilst I had a Pork Belly with cherry sauce ( containing nearly an orchard load of cherries) . Our sweets were another fantastic experience with my Rhubarb Panna Cota and my wife had a Chocolate ball , on a strawberry, in glass with hot caramel sauce poured over it .

Do be aware that the menu is much more extensive than the one on the website and has some wonderful taste experiences. We do intend to revisit this superb restaurant now we have...

I honestly don't know where to begin with the sheer disappointment with this restaurant. Every year our family gets together 21 of us to celebrate Christmas and enjoy a lovely meal and i never thought it would end in me writing a bad review. To start with for a roast we had to choose the meat nearly 2 months in advance to arrive and half hour after being there being told our meat chosen was unavailable as they forgot to order it, which subsequently led to my daughter not having any. Upon ordering drinks, wine on the list was unavailable and there was no squash left for any of the children. I appreciate no childs menu however do expect a reduced rate for a child as clearly they do not eat the same quantity. The starter choice was poor leading to me not having one, and I really don't consider myself a fussy eater. When the meat was then presented to the tables it was not made clear we were suppose to pass meals between tables which I honestly do not consider quality dining. The vegetables that were presented were all roasted and burnt nothing was fresh so again my little girl had nothing to eat. I will give a positive, desert was fantastic. At the end of the meal we wanted coffee to be told the machine was broken so could have instant or tea. As I say we have been out for many years for Christmas dinner and there was no eftort made, no crackers or mince pies not even an after...
