Today, Sunday 9 June 2024, for the second time in seven days my wife and I went here for lunch. Friday lunch was our first visit in 2 years because of our experience then. This time my stepson and his daughter came with because he wanted to go and we wanted to give it another try. What a let down for us. My wife and I both had a roast pork lunch, it is the worst roast lunch I have ever had. It was over done, roasties were soaked in fat having a useless interior, only what appeared to be two skinny whole carrots roasted to a black almost shoelace size, the stuffing portion was a burnt mess. the meat was tough and stringy, the pigs in blankets was a normal pork( I think) sausage wrapped in bacon, all over done. This should be a chipolata sausage wrapped in bacon. I ate most of it and did not complain because I did not want put a cloud over the occasion for my stepson, because it was a pre father's day treat for me, my wife felt the same. Somebody may well say why not complain anyway at the time, I have just said why, and anyway we always do not like to complain unless it is absolutely needed, but prefer to vote with our feet. Usually we do not resort to reviews either, if it has to be negative. We generally feel that ring o bells and other providing the same poor quality food take no notice anyway, especially when ther are enough other custom. All to often these days gastro pubs take advantage of their historical situation and/or apparent better premises and apply an over inflated premium to their pricing structure. Lately we have noticed quite a high increase in prices along with a reduction in portion sizes and a reduction in quality of what is served. This is a complete no no for us and along with this true and negative story we will again vote with our feet and will not be back. Ther truly are places we visit that are feeling the effects societies financial pressures, but do not take their customers for fools, by maintaining their good quality, as fair pricing as possible and leaving us and I have no doubt others a desire to return as soon as possible, being happy with everything...
Read moreIt started having trouble trying to book a table for ten ,had so much trouble with automated call,I I drove there to book a table for ten people, then got told we had to pre order all our meals ?? Who knows what they want to eat three days before , we did as we were asked and pre booked ,got to the pup staff pleasant and polite ,ordered drinks, took ages to come as soon as drinks came the food started to arrive starters were mediocre, then the mains arrive there were only three meals that were ok ,two fish meals and a burger Which we were told later on by the staff the burger was the safest bet,my meal chicken breast wild rice and chicken strips with a BBQ sauce came out with everything cold I took a bite of one chicken strips and put back on my plate ,and called the waitress she said she would get it replaced, after a long while everyone else had nearly finished the meal and mine came back ,it was the same food with bitten chicken but this time it was smothered in a BBQ sauce which wasn't there prior started to cut in to the chicken breast it was hard and dried out the rice was the same , obviously just been thrown in the microwave ,i just handed it right back to the waitress she did apologise and offed me another meal but everyone had finished the meals and drinks so I declined ,they said they would knock it off the bill like they were doing me a favour ,I wasn't going to pay for something I hadn't had really let down ,had to apologise to some of my family who had come to visit after a five hour journey , I also had called in three weeks prior to have lunch and was met with have you booked and ended up being turned away from eating and told they weren't serving lunch any more ? Read moreFirst visit today. We arrived around 1pm walked in and a guy behind the bar on his mobile (not discreetly I might add) was clearly heard telling his caller to make sure there is nothing incriminating on there, whilst holding his finger up to us to wait a moment then walked off into the back! We should have gone on first impressions to be honest! We stood there waiting, nobody else around then i noticed opposite the bar a poster on the wall telling us 4 pointers to getting food. It was only because I started looking around I saw it! Pick a table, scan the qr code and download app, place order and pay on app and food will be on its way. We looked around for a table when a young lady shouted out to us we can't sit there it's for functions and that the guy on the bar should have told us! She half heartedly showed us the area to sit and walked off. We sat there trying to find where this qr code was and found it on a little gift tag type thing. She then came over and asked us if we would like drinks, which confused us as if we have to order via an app then why was she giving table service? Anyway I ordered a small coke and my partner asked what beers they sold, through the choices she gave he ordered estrella. Couple of minutes later she returned to say they have no estrella 🫣 with that my partner said fine let's just leave it then, the vibe wasn't good from the start. Also the young lady ( who bearing in mind was delivering food and drinks to customers) had two nose rings either side of her nostrils...no big deal at all, but what was a big deal was the scabs/sores surrounding these piercings!! 🤢 the final experience you couldn't write as the guy behind the bar originally on his mobile THANKED US FOR COMING!!! he clearly didn't even recognise that we came and left after 15mins!!! All in all use at your own fate! All I can say is the Hatton Arms on...
