The rising sun, a local to us and friendly pub. Calum behind the bar was very friendly and went out of his way to look after us. After a good pint of 61 deep we we very pleased with the food which followed. Chips that are homemade is rare but they are certainly homemade and cut in this pub and everything else we ordered was cooked too perfection. A chocolate Cointreau cheesecake for dessert to finish off what was a brilliant lunch experience and compliments to the chef. Highly recommend and will visit again.

Got to admit I was a little sceptical as I walked in, proper traditional pub but we had a steak and one of the pizzas, food was absolutely brilliant really tasty, Charla who looked after our service was lovely, really nice individual, will be returning, definitely recommend, thanks for a nice evening, see the photo of my pizza!

Only bad thing for me was sat at the bottom of the pun near the kitchen was unbearably hot and didn't look like a window could be opened. Not losing stars over it as he experience made up for it.. Food was amazing staff friendly and helpful and the pub itself is very nice. Would recommend

My husband and I moved back to the area 3 years ago and have been a frequent diners at The Rising Sun ever since. The fact that we keep returning speaks volumes about the place. What keeps making us come back ? Well, in a nutshell - Great quality food, friendly staff and comfortable surroundings.

What I particularly like is the fact that the food is at a level well above ordinary pub grub, but you still get the pub atmosphere. The meals are of a high quality, very tasty and that notch above what you would normally expect in a pub setting. The chips are rightly famous for being so good (proper chunky ones) and the peppercorn sauce is the best I've ever tasted (and I've tasted a lot).

Prior to Covid we used for pop along, taking our dog with us, for Wednesday 2 for 1 burger night. My hubby adores the huge beef burgers and I love the fact that the chicken burger was a proper grilled chicken breast. Other times we have gone for a celebratory family meal and I can, hand on heart, say we have never had a bad or even mediocre meal. The food has always been excellent and plentiful. Nearly every time we have been we have been served by Dahna who is super efficient, friendly and always remembers that I want a peppercorn sauce on the side no matter what meal I am having.

We last ate there on 12/08/2020 and even through it is a restricted menu, I thought there was still a very wide choice of food. I have no hesitation what so ever in recommending The Rising Sun. Well done and thank you, we will...

Hi I visited Sunday 20/10/24 for a booking @ 3pm.When we arrived we were asked how many of us would be dinning. My daughter informed the amount and was told that’s ok anymore you would need to wait. This was booked a week ago. When we were seated the young lady asked if we required a drink and took the order. This was very quick in coming to the table. We were then asked what we would be eating and advised there was no beef left but there was turkey and ham.We all ordered the mixed turkey/ham Sunday lunch. This took 35 minutes to arrive at the table, when it did arrive we were told there was no ham. My plate of food consisted of two batons of carrot, two stems of Brockley eight green beans, one roast potato and portion of mash which the turkey was sitting on.Also two small Yorkshire puddings. These seemed to be the ones you buy in a pack from supermarket. Other customers on the next table had what looked like homemade. The young lady serving us five minutes after serving brought out a bowl with more roasties in. We had no stuffing no parsnips which were shown on the menu. We were asked if we would like another drink which we ordered these never came. We all had sweet both my daughter and I had sticky toffee pudding and custard the custard was warm not hot. Very disappointed with our experience after reading...

A Wednesday early evening. Disappointing food quality and menu options compared to the pictures on their Facebook page. Must be a change of chef/cook? Previously very good quality food although this was weekend visits. Atmosphere not good with Äŗoud swearing individual dropping the f word frequently at the bar. Food served by an individual that wreaked of stale cigarettes.

EDIT

In response to the owners comments

  1. I was not rude.
  2. The whole pie was not eaten. The pastry was mainly inedible like concrete - cooked twice?
  3. Correct, we did not pay for the meal, which was only fair AND you did offer to refund the drinks which I declined as there was nothing wrong with the drinks - so I'm being fair.
  4. If you had checked back sooner I would have told you there was a problem. In summary it was a poor experience compared to previous visits which I gave good praise for at the time. The food served today was not worthy of a two for a tenner offer I expected better.

You also fail to answer the other points raised such as the foul language by a customer when children...
