The best pub in the world. That probably sounds like an exaggeration, but for me, this is the quintessential English pub. When I close my eyes and imagine a pub, it looks like the Roebuck Inn. A warm, inviting atmosphere with real coal fires, relaxed conversation, tasty and very reasonably priced drinks. In the Summer, a great beer garden. The perfect place end a countryside walk. Whenever my friends visit York, I make sure to take them here - and every time they've comeback, they've made a point to visit the Roebuck Inn.
Pubs like this are unfortunately a dying breed. The village owes Jo and Amanda a debt of gratitude for running the place, they are always super friendly - Appleton would be at a huge loss...

Open only Thu-Sun at time of writing (August 2024), we went for the 4pm opening time to celebrate my mother-in-law's 94th birthday - she was born in the village of Appleton Roebuck in August 1930 - and the bar quickly filled with folk who were clearly mostly locals. The chat was bubbling and the atmosphere was very pleasant. To the best of my knowledge the pub doesn't currently serve food. Have known the pub for about 16 years. Tip: Nuzzle up next to the Yorkshire Range, if its a chilly night. Or in summer, as it is now, catch the tail of the Scarecrow Festival...
