We've just spent a week holidaying in Roos and our first port of call was the Roos Arms, we were not disappointed. I've forgotten names but a huge shoutout to the staff that served us all week (girl with purple hair made such a fuss of Fudge and is a perfect host, a real friendly greeting on arrival and seems to love what she does. Young beardy guy, friendly and knowledgeable with a cheeky smile. We were also served by 2 younger girls, dark straight hair (Grace I think) and a dark curly haired one, both were just great. Attentive but not overly so and serve you with a lovely smile. Service is fast and efficient and the interior is lovely and spotlessly clean. Food is probably some of the best we've eaten. We had scallops to start, WOW, deliciously sweet and perfectly cooked. Chicken kiev and salmon for our mains, both delicious and perfectly cooked. We decided to try the Sunday roast, we didn't think the food could get any better but it did. I had the roast beef, perfectly rare and and a huge portion, not just slices but huge slabs of meat that just melt in your mouth. Carl had the chicken, again perfectly cooked and a huge portion. We'd forgotten that these are "Yorkshire portions" so ordered the extra sides, our plates were overflowing but we demolished as much as we could then went back to our cottage and went into a food coma. We both agreed that we've not had a better roast anywhere in England or Wales so, I'm going to make a bold statement, IT WAS THE BEST ROAST WE'VE EVER HAD!! For our last night, we went for steak. Again, we were not disappointed, a beautiful steak, perfectly cooked and presented. Not just a field mushroom and half a tomato but mixed mushrooms in garlic with roasted baby vine tomatoes and a lovely leafy salad and the chips were to die for, huge hand cut and perfectly cooked. I seriously cannot recommend this place highly enough. The chef is so talented and could work in any top restaurant and the bar/serving staff are a real credit to The Roos Arms. Thank you for making every visit special. Tracy,...

We visited for Sunday lunch at our booked time, but when we arrived, the young lady at the front didn’t seem to be expecting us. We waited around ten minutes before being shown to our table. I ordered a Peroni, which was served in the bottle, so I had to ask for a glass. It’s a small thing, but when sitting down for a meal, I’d expect drinks to be served with a glass automatically. The Sunday lunch options were written on a small chalkboard on the table (ā€œbeef, pork, chickenā€) along with a few extras you could order. I chose the beef. When it arrived, it was quite rare, so I asked if it could be cooked a little more. The waitress later came back and said the chef mentioned it was advertised as rare and that I should have requested otherwise — though there was nothing on the board to indicate that. I felt a little uncomfortable after that exchange, which was a shame. My 7-year-old grandson had the children’s roast chicken, but the chicken was quite tough, so he ended up having some of his mum’s meal instead. For the price — nearly Ā£18 for an adult and Ā£8.50 for a child — we expected a bit better quality, especially since he didn’t really eat his. My beef was also a bit chewy, so I ended up giving most of it to my partner. Looking back, we probably should have said something at the time, but after the situation with the beef, I didn’t feel it would have been well received. Lastly, while I do understand it’s a dog-friendly pub, I hadn’t realised dogs would be in the main dining area. We were seated in a smaller room where another group had two dogs, and one of them barked quite a bit, which frightened my grandson. They did take the dog outside eventually, which we appreciated, but it did make the meal a bit less relaxed. Overall, it wasn’t quite the experience we’d hoped for considering the great...

Came here on Saturday 4th of September whilst we were on a family break, 2 adults and 2 kids. I found the pub on a random Google search so didn't know what to expect but the fact they had a small and fresh sounding menu meant we had to give it a try and we are glad we did. We rang and booked as we always do and on arrival we had a very warm welcome. The kids were offered games immediately so they was occupied for a while. The special was a braised beef ragu with homemade tagliatelle so me and my partner shared this as a starter along with a homemade bread board and delicious hummus. They was both very delicious and met our espectations. We also had a bottle of very delicious wine and I was happy to see beer from Camden brewery on tap. The kids had mac and cheese and chicken strips which were all clearly homemade and done properly. For mains we had a venison burger which was one of the best we've ever had. Our other main was a smoked garlic kiev with wild mushroom fricassee and pomme puree which again was all homemade, the flavours were very good but the 1 downside to it was it was quite a dry dish and we would have liked just a small amount of just with it or some sort of sauce (this is not a complaint just our personal opinion?) the staff were excellent and service was great, all in all we had a fantastic meal all in for just under £100, well worth every penny and we will return if we ever come back up this end. Big thankyou to you guys and big respect. We would have liked to see a nice fish dish on the menu but again its no complaint its just what we like. Thanks again for your great service and great food. Eating out is our hobby and it was really nice to find somewhere doing...

We visited the Roos Arms for the first time as a party of three for Friday evening at 18:30. We had made a reservation in advance. When we arrived the car park and pub were full to bursting and we had to find parking on the road. The pub was noisy with music and chatter, a pleasant surprise compared to some pubs which are often empty and lacking atmosphere. Despite making a reservation it wasn't checked. We were a party of three but two of us arrived before the other and we were taken to a table for two. After explaining we were expecting another party, we were shown to a table in the back room which had to be laid for us. The waitress explained it was unexpectedly busier than usual which probably explains the quite slow service. Staff were very polite and helpful when you saw one. The menu is basic. Don't go expecting a big choice because there isn't one. Having said that, what we ordered was good, the starters being better than the mains. The majority of the main courses were fried. Towards the end of our evening the crowds had dispersed and we got talking to Caroline, the landlady. Who apologised for putting us in the back room. That hadn't been an issue at all though. We finished our meal sitting in the main pub area, with coffee by the fire. The pub is on several levels with steps to each. If you have mobility problems this could be an issue. I walk with a stick and did struggle. We all had one soft drink, a starter, main and coffee and paid £28 each.

Food was lovely, dog welcome with free treats if you wanted them. Service lost a point as only 2 girls on duty, one behind the bar and the other running round serving food and drinks, we felt sorry for them as they didn’t stop all night. The main downside was the noise from the pool table. I’m not knocking the fact that the locals use it as business is business, however the language being used was not for children’s ears, fortunately there were no children present, but it was loud and intrusive, hence the score for atmosphere from my point of view. The lads playing pool would certainly have given a 5āļø.

Our new local now we are Sand le Mere owners. The whole bar and pool and warmth from the real fires and the owners is wonderful. The doggies are personalities themselves and our puppy is actually called Roo, can you believe how we knew our decision to buy in the area was underlined passing through the village of Roos and discovering the Roos Arms and taking our puppy called Roo there. Tetley ale is delicious and pool table is in great nick. Today is a few days before Christmas, the people we met were friendly. Thank you
