Wish there were more stars to give. One of my favourite places ever to go with the family. Their ice cream is phenomenal and I recommend that you try something different rather than your usual choice because I've been pleasantly surprised on more than one occasion. Good sized car park with walks in close proximity, a children's play area and play barn with tractors etc. They also have llamas, emus, Shetland ponies, pygmy goats etc, not a petting park but fun to watch. The indoor parlour is airy with an area where you can enjoy parties and the weekday food menu is good and the portions large! You can easily buy an adult lunch and share with a child and have left over! There is a large outdoor area with benches with great views of the surrounding hills. The ice cream is home made with milk from their cows and they also sell sorbet for the vegans and lactose intolerant. I've yet to have an ice cream there that I don't like although the Bubblegum one is a toxic blue that's a child magnet and tastes better than it looks. You can also get take away boxes. The toilets are usually clean and well maintained. Staff are beautiful and friendly considering the amount of customers that they have to serve. You can get beer and cider too and although the choice is limited it's good quality. There are only two things that I find a bit of a fault with and one is the entrance can very quickly turn into a logjam because the ice cream counter is just inside and one family getting served means either waiting outside or squeezing in like sardines in a tin. I would not recommend Sunday lunch. Considering the weekday food is exceptional value, we were left really disappointed with the Sunday roast as the meat looked like it had been cooked by Dexter! Totally murdered and overcooked. We went as a family of four and all ordered something different. The chicken breasts wouldn't have looked out of place on Bondi beach with buff Aussies riding the surf on them. You could break bits of but getting a knife through them?? The beef too was more akin to carpet tiles rather than the succulent, melt in the mouth meat I am used to cooking at home. In all fairness we refused to eat it and were given a full refund which was acceptable. Whoever designed the place deserves a medal and although the Sunday lunch was not good there is enough there to have a...
Read moreA quick stop on the way to Devizes, we just had 20 minutes to spare. Super location!
It was hot and sunny, there were plenty of outside picnic benches available, with parasols. Inside seating was available too and they’d opened up patio doors, etc, on the two buildings, to keep the spaces cooker.
As it was hot, and we only had a short break before a meeting in Devizes, we both had cold drinks and I had an ice cream with a flake (my wife had the flake before I knew it! :( :)) ).
Good range of cold drinks, and very (very) nice toffee ice cream. I just had one scoop and it was very generous. The tub option was good for the hot weather.
All staff friendly and attentive: the first gentleman we saw explained how the site was arranged, so some drinks where he was serving, and not sure quite what else, maybe hot food and sandwiches at a guess - yes there is a good range of food too just found out on their website - we didn’t hang around once we realised that the kiosk was our destination for ice creams and drinks out in the garden area. That was helpful to know though as we didn’t have a lot of spare time.
The person who served us at the kiosk was friendly too, joking about the fact that the particular freezer cabinet had gone really cold, making it difficult to scoop out the ice cream.
Well recommended, we will definitely stop there again, but will also a bit more time to enjoy it more.
In such a hurry, we forgot to take any photos, except of a Red Kite on...
Read moreI'm not sure what has changed in the last year or so. Went in today for a light lunch. Service seemed a little chaotic. There were lots of people behind the counter, but not much attention paid to tables. I'm not sure if there has been a change of ownership or change in the kitchen, but the food was not to the usual high standard as our previous visits. Don't get me wrong, it was ok. The plate was stone-cold, so the food went that way pretty quickly. (sausages were delicious) One person had a pie which looked great but was served on a chopping board, which made it very difficult to eat. Tea came in a pot, which was great. I love a pot of tea, but the cup was tiny and extremely wide, so the tea was cold within minutes. We also got a cake but I couldn't eat mine as it was beyond moist, oily almost and overly sweet. I gave 3 stars as the place was clean and the service staff at the counter were super friendly. The location is amazing, as always. We were just a little disappointed as we have never had a bad meal there. Ps Missing the Sunday roasts, too. The place was always rammed on Sundays. It was not even fullish...
