Found this little gem on the way home from Nottingham. Got here just after 11:30am so we ordered a drink and had a look at the menu. After 5-10 minutes we ordered our food. Ready for when the kitchen opened. The pub it’s self. This is a very clean well maintained and pleasant pub. I could not find any negative things to say about its appearance or how clean it was. A really beautiful warm and welcoming pub. Even to the point of having a table for dog treats and water. The staff were very friendly happy and chatty. The chap who served us was really attentive and seemed nothing was too much. This is why I always think good service pays off because his attitude and service made our visit just that little bit better than the already great visit. The food. The food we were waiting for about 20 minutes for. Now you have to understand that the kitchens only opened at 12 so 20 minutes from kitchen opening to food on the table was quite good. The food looked really good. I did think when I saw the fish that it would not fill me tho. Boy was I wrong. The quality of the meals was first class. I could bang on all day about the taste the quality and the portions but to experience what we did you’ll have to go there yourself. The food was without a doubt fantastic I struggled to eat my last few bites but I did as I did not want To leave a crumb on my plate. Having never been here before I can say in the words of Arnold “I’ll be back” Overall a truly perfect experience for both food and service. Thank you thank you thank you thank you

It's been a few years since we've visited here. We had high hopes after reading recent reviews, but we left disappointed. My photos make all of this look amazing, but it's a bit of a red herring 😿 The gravy, with all those herbs (see photo),should have been really nice, but it was bland/tasteless and you needed a strainer as the herbs were inedible. The stuffing balls left a pool of oil on my plate, and you couldn't use a fork for the carrots because they were so overcooked, unless you shoveled them 🤷‍♂️ And the chicken? It was overcooked and dry, I had to spread it out on my plate and let it sit in the bland gravy just to soften it. I don't normally do lengthy negative reviews, but we had such high hopes. So lets end on a high 😉 The staff and service were excellent. Really helpful and seemed genuinely happy people, really nice to see ☺️

The sandpaper is a really nice comfortable pub with a cozy atmosphere. There is an excellent selection of cask conditioned real ale, not all food orientated pubs have this. The results are a good selection of other beers lager and cider. The wine selection is wide and varied and reasonably priced. We booked a table for a large family gathering. It was already when we arrived. Our relatives from overseas and us really enjoyed the meal. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The service was quick and deficient we have been here a few times for family get togethers. I have also been here for classic car meets Midweek during the summer. We have always been made very welcome. There is very large free car park around the pub. Highly recommended.

This place up until now was excellent.

We have been coming here for years and the food is really good and the service friendly.

On our penultimate visit the manager told us that he was sadly leaving as he needed a bit more money.

I said to my wife that this is a shame as the manager knows most of his customers by first name and is very friendly.

I even said that if the brewery paid him that bit more that they would not lose anything as most customers come in because of his well managed bar and Resturante.

We returned 4 weeks later with our dad for his birthday and booked a table for 15 of us.

Upon arrival I was shocked to see the carpark empty as it is normally really busy.

Upon entering I was greeted by a miserable cant be bothered bar lady ( Monday night) and was quit rude when I paid for drinks trying to use contactless not knowing this is not acceptable.

It then became obvious that after waiting for somebody to take our order as per usual that we had to pay at the bar individually.

After ordering my food I presumed that my brother had bought my grans food on the 2 for one deal but this was not the case so I asked if I could add hers onto my deal and was told by the miserable bar lady that this can’t be done once I had ordered and that in future I need to do this before ordering.

I felt like she was telling me Off and to be honest if I wasn’t at a table so large I would of told her where to go as I don’t need a lecture.

I was very disappointed at the service I received from this lady and will not be returning which is such a shame as the food was still nice with large generous portions.

Hope this...

3 star as opposed to 1 star as I've had several positive trips to Sandpiper before last night, however, the service and quality of food during my last visit was dreadful. Was seated and told that there could be a 30 minute wait for food - no problem, it was dinner time, expected a wait. Over 1 our later our food arrives. 3 of us ordered the same meal (10 ounce steak, all 3 requested to be cooked medium), every steak was cooked differently. One horrifically overcooked, one bleeding and nearly entirely uncooked and the other more or less just right - I only wish I could upload the picture I took of the 3 different steaks so you'd know I'm not the type of person to generally complain about the quality of chain-pub grub. When asked if we were enjoying the food, I mentioned that the steak was a bit overcooked and was offered a replacement but also warned that there would be a long wait as there were plenty of people waiting before me for food - whatever, I passed and choked it down.

Came to pay for the meal and we needed to pay separately - had to repeat this several times to the lady behind the bar as I guess she didn't understand? On the third time of repeating exactly how much I'd like to pay on card, the lady barks 'yeah how much?' with a rediculous amount of attitude for no reason.

Had 2-3 great meals and service experience prior to this but will not be returning. Heard similar stories about the inconsistency of service at the Sandpiper: great one night,...
