Arguably the best pub/restaurant in Dorset, for service, for atmosphere and most importantly quality of food and drinks. When you arrive at the Saxons Arms you are always greated with a warm welcoming reception, the staff, without exception, are polite, courteous and nothing is to much trouble for them to accommodate. The Saxons is always well attended, so I'd say booking ahead is always a good idea, this leads to a great atmosphere when eating and drinking here. Now the food, I have eaten here many times, be it stopping off for a light bite after a long walk in the area, being taken here by my family for my 50th, or as quite often, just coming here as our venue of choice. The food is always exceptional, great value, superbly cooked and a very good choice for all palettes. We have never yet been let down by the Saxon Arms and would have absolutely no problems recommending to anyone. We live an hours drive from here but always look forward to our trips to the Saxons, if your in the area and are looking for a great place to eat, you will certainly not be disappointed. Thanks to all the staff again for yet another memorable...
Read moreWe’ve been coming to the Saxon Arms for years, and with good reason: the pub is lovely, the welcoming service from all the staff is exemplary and the food is a cut above the average. I don’t normally write reviews, especially for places I visit frequently, however I ordered the Beef Wellington for lunch today from their varied specials board and it was simply superb. It’s a favourite dish, but I rarely have it when I’m out as it’s easy to mess up - tiny steaks that are overcooked and pastry that’s soggy and tasteless, and the whole lot is more often than not outrageously overpriced, but today’s was outstanding. It was beautifully presented, perfectly cooked and tasted fabulous. The last Beef Wellington I had that was this good was at Hawksmoor in Spitalfields, a world away from this relaxed, quiet country pub in the middle of Dorset. I can honestly say that the Saxon Arms never fails to meet expectations and would always get my hearty recommendation, but today’s lunch was worthy of an establishment charging many times more for its food....
Read moreMy wife and I were in The Saxon Arms with some friends for a Christmas lunch. The welcome was warm and friendly. Two of our party had starters which looked delicious. Most had turkey for their main, but we had salmon. Everyone enjoyed the turkey. We thought the salmon was excellent. There was a fairly wide range of "puddings" all of which went down very well. My apple, pear and cinnamon crumble with ice cream was delicious. We were at a large table near the fire which was very cosy. The service was efficient and the servers very friendly. There was a good number in the pub and the atmosphere was festive. At £24.95, it was not that cheap, but the quality made it a fair price. All of our party enjoyed the occasion very much. It is good to know that The Saxon Arms is keeping up the high standards of food and...
