A group of us used to meet up periodically for a meal but the place we used to go to has introduced some weird policies which we didn't agree with. Someone suggested Scotts Arms as an alternative, which I had never visited but which sounded nice from the online descriptions. We were not disappointed. The waitresses and barman were very friendly and seemed genuinely pleased to see us. The food was superb!

When it comes to pub food I'm quite partial to a steak and ale pie. All too often though it is presented more akin to a casserole with a puff pastry lid. This one, however, was one of the best pies I've had in a very long time. It is a proper pie, wholly encased in shortcrust pastry and decoratively finished with a plaited crust. It was filled with good chunks of tender, lean steak, and enriched with an extremely tasty gravy. My plate certainly didn't need cleaning by the time I'd finished with it! The main course was easily enough for a complete meal but there's always room for pudding, right? I opted for the sticky toffee pudding with custard. Although the custard was nice I wish I'd gone for the ice cream accompaniment, as the toffee sauce would have sufficed.

Towards the end of our meal a live musician started to play. Often when pubs have live music it's the end of conversation, as the music is usually way too loud. Not so here: he was loud enough to be heard but not so loud as to dominate.

We all really enjoyed the venue and agreed to meet there again. It's not the cheapest place - the pie, the pudding and two J2Os came to just over £30 - but for the quality I would definitely have the same...

Stayed here last night. Booked because we were going to Emmerdale tour and needed something close by. What a find!! From the moment we left the car in the very large car park we found walking maps in containers just outside the main door. Being keen walkers we loved this. Usually have to ask about these once you're inside accommodation. Stepped inside to a lovely warm welcome and not just from the log burner! All staff lovely and friendly and bar area really well laid out and cosy. We were in Room 3 which was upstairs and a short walk through the restaurant. Room and shower room were exceptional! We'd booked the double rather than the king so space a little short round the bed but that was fine. Decor lovely and plenty of hanging and drawer space. No window but a lovely skylight and rest of lighting perfect. TV (with Netflix), hairdryer, tea and coffee facilites with really nice crockery and glassware. Shower room was one of the best we've ever had and we've travelled far and wide. Gorgeous walk in shower with wall attached gel, shampoo and conditioner. Everywhere super clean and comfy bed ( duvet a bit heavy for us but has to suit others) Had dinner in the restaurant and as well as an already large menu there were specials for all 3 courses and was the best meal we have had for ages and plenty of it, with bonus it was served on hot plates for a change so you could take your time eating. Restaurant was really busy but all staff were super attentive and friendly as they had been throughout. Unfortunately just one big negative........ it's too far away from Manchester to be...

Dreadful visit today! Very upsetting having supported this pub all throughout covid and many times since our business was not welcome today! To be told that a pub is ‘too busy’ to make 2 coffees is unbelievable! The female member of bar staff and the ‘Manager’ Jane were both dismissive and very unhelpful. We were also very upset to find broken glass all round our outside table and left before our two dogs could get injured. What a dreadful shame we would not recommend visiting anytime soon until the management get priorities in order!

So having sent our thoughts on today you have replied with dreadful comments! This is a genuine review not false as you claim! I take great offensive when you say bad language was used it most certainly was not! Your staff were not reduced to any tears, they were too busy arguing! As for other customers there was one very rude gentleman who decided it was his place to but in the conversation. For your information there was only one other table of people in the garden at the time so this is not a reason for not clearing broken glass If you look back on your reviews anyone who has problems is not responded to in the correct manner and this is yet another example. What a shame you don’t take criticism well and apologise to...

A change is as good as a rest - for about 10 years we have stopped half way between the New Forest and Edinburgh staying over at the Windmill in nearby Linton - and time for a change - and our stay at the Scotts Arms was excellent. A friendly welcome, immaculately clean and refurbished bedrooms - our evening meal served in a cosy and buzzing restaurant - the food was well presented - portion size was spot on. A good night's sleep in comfy beds ( good pillows) and a great breakfast. A really good first experience - a super establishment, in a great location - very professional. We would recommend and will return - thank you.

Booked a table for us 4pm to coincide with the end of our circular walk from the pub carpark, through stockeld, accross the Wetherby road and down onto the Harland way which has been relaid, left head up to Spofforth cross the road again and follow the track through Christmas trees back to the pub carpark, took us about 1 hour 40. We arrived a little early but not a problem, and our dog was made very welcome too. Very friendly staff, lovely food what else can I say? Go see 😊

We’ve been a couple of times now and it’s always been fantastic. The staff were delightful and very attentive, and the food as always was stunning. My grandma said it’s the best sticky toffee pudding she’s ever had, and she is notoriously fussy! The environment is also beautiful as always. We mentioned at the start that it was my sisters birthday and they got her a brownie with candles. Truly lovely staff, and a great experience.
