What a gem of a place tucked away down a little lane. This quaint Cornish pub is so atmospheric, cosy and welcoming. Staff are friendly and make you feel like regular visitors. We booked for lunch on New year's Day.table for four plus two large dogs! No problem. Water bowl for the pooches straight away. Table ready even though we were early. Food was amazing!! Really good! Fresh, hot, delicious and very generous portions. I had mussels in a coconut, curry broth thinking it would be a light starter. Very generous and delicious bowlful of fishy lovelyness followed by crab linguine with coconut and lime sauce. Oh my!! Absolutely delicious, again roasting hot, generous and full of flavour! I have to confess I tried but just couldn't finish it all but was very sad to see it go! All four starters were beautiful followed by equally delicious mains and the two puds we couldn't resist were not a disappointment either!! Very good value for money. Service was excellent, friendly and nothing too much trouble. Highly recommended!!!!

This was one of the places I was really looking forward to trying while down in Cornwall – especially with it being a 16th-century pub. There’s plenty of parking available, including an overflow area which is handy. The pub itself has brilliant old-world charm with some really cool décor. We were greeted by super friendly bar staff who made a lovely fuss of our two toddlers, even pointing out that there was a play area on-site for them, which was a great touch. There’s a fantastic selection of draught beers on tap, and the play area is perfect for under-5s – a real bonus when you’re trying to enjoy a relaxed drink! Later on, we stayed for food. My partner went for the beer-battered cod loin, while I had the hand-cut sirloin steak (rare). Both meals were really tasty – although if I’m being picky, my steak came absolutely covered in peas! It felt a bit like I was having peas with a side of steak! That said, the food was solid overall, and we’d definitely love to come back next time we’re in the area

Decent pub food, some specials, extensive menu, mix of largely bought in with some home made elements. It was busy for tea time service, then quietened quickly after 7.30. Our staff seemed to be experienced but new to the pub, and had too many tables so we had to hang around for periods waiting for drinks which were ordered or menu choices to be relayed back to us. The pub itself had a lovely decor (bar made of a counter top on old barrel fronts) and thatched roof etc, very quaint, but the extension area which we sat near to the entrance door of inside the main pub was freezing and when the door was (frequently) left open it was bitterly cold in the draught which came through. There was a large choice of ales and drinks and the place was massive with all the little annexes and extensions, so if you were a drinker camped on the site just opposite it would probably be very appealing. I wouldn't rush back personally.

Had used to be a real treat to visit this place but unfortunately the magic just like the customer service has vanished.. Booked for a group of 8 all dining inside, when we arrived we were told that the tables front of house were pre booked and that we were in the annex to the rear, We went and sat down and 15 - 20 minutes later and still no service went up to the bar to inquire and got told that the table service was for front of house only so we would have to order at the bar.. Sat waiting in the long tall hallway like annex with one end wide open patio doors the wind was blowing straight through the place making everyone very cold and uncomfortable so when the food arrived I explained the problem and asked if we could have the doors closed only to be told with considerable attitude that they would have to be kept open due to health and safety issues and something to do with a fire risk?? Other diners in the room also requested that they be closed and to there amazement were told the same?? Our food went cold before we had chance to eat it and everyone in there finished and left asap, I've never been made to feel so uncomfortable and unwelcome as I did in there and myself nor anyone in my group will not be returning to the smugglers which is a shame as we've been coming to here for year's! I suspect that the future is looking bad for the place as it's hidden away and living on an old reputation. There are so many nice pubs in the area that are doing a much better job of looking after...

We are here on honeymoon and have stumbled across this little gem having visited the area several times before with never had the pleasure of visiting this amazing quaint little pub. From the very beautiful thatched exterior to the delicious delectable menu the Seafood chowder is possibly one of the best experiences food wise I've had it was like an explosion of flavours in my mouth the portion sizes are enough to feed a small family so come with an empty belly and be prepared to have to be rolled out. they have an amazing selection of gins for those gin Buffs like me. also had the pleasure of the three-course Sunday roast for a mere £16 for that you get an amazing selection and choice of meals while sitting in the warm glow of a real fire I'm not one to often leave reviews but this place tops many I have been to. I have the staff are friendly and polite we only have one day left of our honeymoon and we will for sure spend our last meal at the Smugglers thank you for making our honeymoon a special and...
