I love the whole ethos of this off grid cafe made mainly from recycled shipping containers with a lovely wooden framed conservatory style indoor seating area; along with outdoor benches and tables and plenty of places to park bikes. They even hire bikes. The food is locally sourced, flavoursome high quality food that you can tell is made with love. It is amazing. You can sit outside or inside to eat.
We visit every Easter.
My hubby and two teenage daughter's cycle to the cafe from near Grogley Halt, have lunch, and cake. Then we cycle back. It is a brilliant place to cycle to as part of a lovely day when on holiday. I'm certainly glad that nearly all of the ride back is downhill. The cycle ride is worth the trip to the cafe; we have been doing the ride to the cafe for lunch for more than 4 years.
The food is fantastic and you can tell that a lot of care and love has gone into preparing it. I usually have a ploughmans with everything. I just don't want to miss out on delicious food. The salad is not a pinch of leaves with half a cherry tomato and a wisp of cucumber. You will get more than 2 of your 5 a day, I really enjoy the home made coleslaw and Hummus. The sandwiches are massive doorsteps of bread that has been hewn from a loaf from a local baker. There is a choice of breads and there are child sized portions too. They do sell out of food, but that is the sign of a great cafe.
The scones are made that day if you are into cream teas. All of the cake is amazing. Don't judge what the cakes look like by bake off standards, but it's taste and texture that I look for, they are really good. The carrot cake is moist and hubby was very pleased to have bought the last slice when we were last there. The Chocolate brownies are just what a brownie should be, really chocolatey and slightly gooey.
It's a shame that we live so far away as we would definitely...
Read moreSnail's Pace is not just a name, it's the kind of service provided here. We ended up walking out without ordering after waiting way too long without being offered even menus. Staff offered no apologies for the long wait and avoided eye contact when we went looking for menus ourselves. They seemed more interested in chatting and giggling than serving. Food choices were very limited (4 options of food with only vegetarian choices after midday) and after noticing that there were 3 other disgruntled looking tables who had arrived before us and who were also still eating for menus and the staff struggling to get the payments to go through for people leaving we decided to give up on what looked like over-priced food that we probably wouldn't have normally chosen to order anyway. Decided to go for a walk feeling very hungry, rather than wait a long time for presumably disappointing food. I also notice, alter reading another similar review that the establishment is more interested in lambasting those providing bad reviews here rather than offering apologies trying to resolve the issues with their...
Read moreCame here for a coffee, it was only me and a couple sat down. 3 staff working, 3 customers
And still nobody took my order for like over 10 mins! :( guys I was sat right there! You even brought me someone else's order (the only other person in the cafe) and I still said "no I have not ordered yet" and yet nobody took my order or acknowledged me :(
I had spent 15 mins inside surrounded by staff who never asked what I would like. I didn't even want to sit in guys I wanted takeaway! So I took a leak then took off to finish my walk. PS, surely it took just as much time to make and hang a sign saying the toilet lock is broken, as it would have to fashion a fix for the toilet? Just a thought.. :D
But either way I still appreciated being able to sit in the dry for a bit and the two stars are because there was Al Green playing. I will try again next time I walk that direction and hopefully have...
