Went for Sunday dinner at 3.15pm. When we arrived, we sat down to a dirty table with no cutlery, etc. The waitress said, "Here's the menu. I'll clean and set your table up now," in which she did, with us sitting there.
She then took our order, We both ordered a starter each, I ordered the pate, and my husband ordered the lamb koftas, plus 2 drinks and 2 roasts.
When the starter came, my husbands koftas were all splattered over the dish, as though it had been shoved in a microwave, and they were hard/tough to eat. My pate came with a small piece of toast, not brioche like the menu stated.
Wen she said "there's no Turkey left," we said "aww but we wanted the trio," she sed "ok but instead of turkey, I'll say put more pork on" we said "ok." I ordered the pork. I said, with the trio, no horseradish sauce, please.
She then said, "we have no trios left, only pork. Someone has had the last beef." We both looked at each other, and both said "ok 2 pork, please.
She asked if we wanted extras, I ordered 1 cauliflower cheese to be told there wasn't any left. I then ordered 1 portion of 4 pigs in blankets, she said ok.
When the pork roast came neither had, stuffing, or cracking on them, the yorkshire puddings we're burnt, no jug of gravy, just thin tasteless gravy was poured over them and a small dollop of red cabbage, with loads of peas. We ordered pigs in blankets, 4 in a portion to receive 2, and when I asked where the rest were, the man said I'll go get them, he came bk and said yes, you have guessed right, they had run out. The chef thought we wouldn't notice, lol.
They had run out of, The Trio Carvery, Beef, Turkey, Cauliflower Cheese and when ordered gave us 2 pigs in blankets not 4. My husband's pork came with Horseradish sauce and not Apple sauce on it.
Our Roast Pork Main...£15.79 x 2...No stuffing, No cracking, No cauliflower cheese, 1 pig in blanket (although a side of 4 was ordered) we never stopped for desert as didn't want to be more dispointed than we already were.
When we complained, we were told they had been busy. We sat down at 3.15pm it was quite. Busy or not, cook enough food to last you till u close at 8pm. When we left at 4.15pm ish we heard another lady say...
Read moreTwo of us went on a Saturday night for a Harry Potter themed quiz and had plenty to eat and drink whilst we were there:
Upon arrival we were nicely greeted by the new owner (who I believe has only been there a few weeks and has already done quite a lot to improve things, so we were told). After being seated the service throughout our meal was keen, attentive, and friendly - a waitress came to light our candle when we arrived which was a really nice touch with great attention to detail (it's the little things!). The place was really nicely decorated and had a great atmosphere. The lighting was something both myself and my partner commented on, it really set a nice mood against the timber framing and exposed brickwork in locations. It was also lovely and warm on what was a really dark and rainy night.
The meal was lovely, great sized portions and the food was really nicely cooked with great flavours. The pricing was amazing for the portions and quality. We also got 20% off our food bill because we took part in the quiz, which I believe it a weekly thing - so that's brilliant!
The quiz itself was brilliant and the whole place was packed for it. It was good fun - even if we did come almost last!
The beer was good quality with a nice selection as well.
The only slight downside experienced was the bar service. After ordering drinks with the service staff quite a few times after our meal, none arrived, so I decided to go to the bar myself a couple of times. But the wait was long and there was no real urgency in the bar staff. At one time a barman just left the packed bar and went to talk to another member of staff towards the side, which was quite frustrating because the service received throughout the meal was excellent.
Ultimately though this doesn't detracted from a great night that's fully deserving of 5 stars. We hope to come back for another quiz night and some...
Read moreMy husband and I took our two Granddaughters to the Squirrel yesterday and arrived promptly at 1 p.m. as we had reserved a table for this time. We were shown to a table and then waited 20 minutes before the waitress returned to take our drinks order. At the same time she asked if we were ready to order food, which of course we were as we had been waiting such a long time. She did not write our order down, even though we all wanted different things. She just tapped her tray and nodded. We were a little concerned, but did not question her ability to remember our order. When the food eventually arrived, after another 30 minutes, the order was not correct. My Granddaughter had asked for a rare sirloin steak and she received a cold, well done one. I had asked for my steak to be cooked medium rare and it was nearly rare and also cold. I could not swap with my Granddaughter as my steak was cut up and her's was in one piece. In hindsight, we should have sent those two dishes back, but we were extremely hungry, having waited so long for our food and there were no waiting staff to be seen if we had decided to return our food. My eldest Granddaughter wished to use the toilet during our visit and was appalled to find the toilet door would not close properly and would not lock. We also found the waitress who delivered our food to be rude. She plonked the food down and then attempted to rush off. We had to call her back to ask for mayonnaise and vinegar and this seemed to be a total inconvenience. So, to sum up our visit, it was awful and we were quite embarrassed as this was meant to be a treat for our Granddaughters. We will never return to your restaurant and will certainly not recommend...
