We went to Stanmer tea rooms for breakfast yesterday as we’ve heard such good things about it. We arrived at 9:55am and were the only ones there. However we stood for about 5 minutes before anyone of the 3 staff even acknowledged us at the counter- they were cleaning the coffee machine and putting glasses away whilst we stood with menus in hand. We asked if we could order breakfast as we were not even sure that they were open, given their lack of speaking with us. They said we could order and We sat down, where I had to wipe the table down as it was dirty. Our drinks were made but I sat and watched my tea stewing whilst they made a cappuccino- my Tea was so strong it was undrinkable. I even went Uk and removed the tray bag eventually without them noticing abs it was still so strong and getting cooler. I wasn’t given milk either but decided not to bother asking for any at this stage. When breakfast arrived the order was wrong - fried eggs instead of scrambled, pork sausages looked very undercooked and there was a pool of fat on the plate. I asked if I could please have some butter for my toast and this was defiantly placed on the table, no sorry or can I get you anything else. I felt like I was asking for something extraordinary to be honest. I ended up being really unwell for the rest of the day- thinking due to the sausages. Am so sad to write this as it really looks to be a lovely tea room but am thinking maybe it’s brilliant for cake ( not tea unless you like it very...
Read moreWent for a nice family day out today, and thought we would stop here and get a coffee the kids an ice cream and a bowl of chips. Sat down outside as we had the kids with us they had a couple of packets of crisps we had bought with us to share while we were waiting for our chips. When the owner comes out shouting that we had to put the crisps away as we were not allowed our own food! Tried to explain to her that we had ordered from her shop and was waiting. She was so rude, loud and argumentative, she didn't even come over and ask us quietly and nicely she shouted in front of all other customers about how we wouldn't take our own beer to a pub!! We would have completely understood if we hadn't purchased anything from her shop but we had and felt this was very unprofessional! Would not go here again,...
Read moreDisappointing. Website states ‘dog friendly’ which is great but clearly thousands of dog walkers frequent the area because the day we went the village itself was pretty quiet but the tea rooms had at least 15 dogs with owners sat outside (separately not one big group)...most of them were barking loudly. I don’t mind dogs but I’d avoid this place in future...I’d call it more a dog lover’s meeting point! In terms of food and drink we only had ice creams and coffee. But the coffee was probably the most underwhelming I’ve ever experienced - basically hot milk with a dash of instant..at £2.50 a mug I felt pretty ripped off. The service was nothing special which is a shame; the tea rooms are in such a beautiful spot and hate leaving bad or mediocre reviews but there really isn’t much positive...
